When do you stop taking hayfever medication for the year?

First year I have had prescription meds as it was so bad this year. GP said take until end of hayfever season but I don't really know when that is. It started in March for me.

It depends what causes it, we don't know what this is for you so we can't say.

When my ears stop tickling in the evening! Had a few days without needing to take any but tonight it was bad again. Usually by late October though.

Pikachubaby · 11/09/2020 22:56

I still have it now Sad

I’m usually fine by late May. I did find a table once of the various pollens and their season. I’m tree pollen, hence very early - I start anti histamine late Feb.

AgeLikeWine · 11/09/2020 23:04

Usually late September, or earlier if the weather is crap, as it was last year.

I start taking loratadine in early May as the ghastly stinking oilseed rape starts flowering, and carry on taking it through the grass & tree pollen seasons. I have no idea what my stupid immune system decides to be allergic to in August, but it does. It just likes having allergic reactions.

Do people think its been bad unusually late this summer too? DD (3) has hay-fever and she seems to be having a bit of a reaction at the moment to grass etc so might put her back on the antihistamine

Babymamamama · 12/09/2020 01:28

I still need to take medication - I think it's really dragging on this year for some reason.

No but then we get it to about October and then from January.

I take mine all year round as it actually gets worse in the winter. I'm not sure what it is that sets me off in the winter, maybe mould spores.

Caelano · 12/09/2020 09:00

I stopped taking mine a few days ago but am waking up with sore eyes and congestion so I’ve restarted. The hay fever season for my allergies definitely seems to be dragging on this year. I start meds around April/ May.

Normally about now, but I tried last week and started feeling rubbish again so I’m going to keep going with them for another month. It does seem worse than usual this year.

Pansypath · 12/09/2020 20:23

I don't know either @donnadenise but it starts in March and I live in London

I tried to stop them a couple of weeks ago but my asthma didn't like it so I'm back on them again. Will try again at the end of the month.

Thanks. I thought it was just just a couple of months!
