Upper back pain?

Started with a dull pain I’d say around about 2 weeks ago, upper back area, between my shoulder blades.

Sometimes it got worse, like a sharp stabbing pain if I moved a certain way or moved my arms a certain way.

Yesterday it felt like it was getting worse & this evening it’s definitely worse, makes me ‘cry’ out when it strikes and it’s becoming more frequent. It can feel like it’s effecting my neck a bit too.

I’d ring my drs bit they’re still not seeing any patients anyway. I’ve taken some paracetamol & ibuprofen to see if it’ll take the edge off. I don’t remember lifting anything g heavy, I don’t really exercise or go to the gym to cause injury so that’s ruled out. It just seems to of come on by itself. Any ideas?

I've had similar. I think it was caused by the way I slept.

Hi @youvegottobekidding - I have had really similar to you since May, although there is no reason for you to assume it will go on this long! I think I made it stick around longer by stressing/obsessing about it which made me tense all the time. It is finally shifting now.

I’d recommend booking appt with GP Just to rule anything out, as upper back pain is seen as more of a red flag rather than lower back pain. I did and had x-rays/bloods - it didn’t show anything serious and I was never worried but good to rule out.

I’ve seen various people about it and they reckon the main cause was lack of movement, they moving about a bit more on the day and doing a range of exercise and this has been a huge help to me after weeks of thinking it would never get better. I try to go for a 45 min walk most mornings, then swim and do a Pilates class once a week each. If it is like mine then being a bit more active might make a big difference! I’m saying this as someone that really didn’t enjoy exercise but just a little bit has felt great and I’m motivated because it seems to be sorting it!

Also, I posted this thread where people gave me useful advice: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/general_health/3977070-Back-pain-positivity - you probably aren’t there yet as most back pain goes away by itself but might be useful (:

Also this Yoga by Adriene video is easy to follow and has loads of great stretches - it incorporates most of the exercises my physio gave me for upper/mid back pain so might be good to follow along.

Hope it’s helpful and that you feel better soon!
