Dvt?

Just to say I'm calling the dr tomorrow.

Last week I was sent on an urgent referral to hospital to check for pulmonary embolism as I had shortness of breath and palpitations and had given birth the week before. They decided it wasn't pulmonary embolism despite raised d dimer because raised d dimer can happen post partum. They did discover I am severely anaemic and I'm now on iron tablets. Anyway, the day after I'd been at hospital I came up with a bruise/vein in my lower leg and ankle. It's tender to touch and at times hard to put weight on. A few days on and it hasn't changed and isn't swollen but my whole leg aches. It didn't yesterday but the aching is back today. I'm terrified it is a clot. I don't want to be away from my baby. Do they keep you in hospital if they discover a clot? I was wondering about varicose veins also but no idea if i have that. My leg does feel lumpy in places but no obvious bulging veins.

You do need to be seen and assessed again. No they won't keep you in hospital if it is a dvt. You will have to learn to self inject for 3 months if you are breast feeding, tablets if bottle feeding. If they think it might be a dvt they will scan your leg.
Get a tape measure and measure round both calves.
Compare the veins in your ankles and feet. Swollen veins on one ankle/ foot can indicate dvt.

How did it go?

Hi
Thanks for asking. It isn't a blood clot, which is a relief but none the wiser now.

Google thrombophlebitis.
