Should a bite hurt this much 3 days later?!

A bit concerned by my insect bite.

I got bitten by a (probable) mosquito on my foot Tuesday night. It was pretty painful on Wednesday, couldn’t even stand to touch it. I went to the pharmacy and he gave me piriton and piriton cream. That helped a lot, so much so that it started to get better. But the piriton made me feel properly unwell, so I’m not going to take it again tonight.

Then I woke up about an hour ago with so much pain in my foot! The pharmacist said it didn’t look infected and to watch out for it going yellow (it isn’t yellow).

But I don’t know if this sort of pain is normal for people who are allergic to insect bites?!

I have young children in the house and the hospital is a big drive away - and don’t know if I’d be overreacting by thinking it’s infected. It doesn’t look it, it just really hurts!

Picture attached just because

This is what it looked like last night. The lighting is different, but can’t tell which looks worse!

I think you got bit by a spider, and those can hurt like mad for days.

Oh maybe! I also have one on my leg which isn’t nearly as bad. I had assumed mosquito because i guessed it buzzed into my bedroom at night Sad

I really hope it is just a painful bite and nothing more sinister!!

Yes they can hurt/itch for a while. My last ones ended up with the redness spreading to patches the size of a coffee mug. Agonising for days. No infection, just a very intense reaction. I only had hydrocortisone bite cream and it did nothing, finally got some antihistamine cream (amazon prime to the rescue!) and that did help, but they were awful. It was during the heatwave and I had 7 huge red welts on my legs for most of our camping trip, not a good look in shorts!

If you notice pus, or you feel unwell, then obviously go and get them checked out.

Oh crikey! That sounds awful! But familiar with this one. Am relieved to hear it did pass though.

Okay I will look out for pus and a general unwell feeling. I definitely had the unwell feeling this morning, but think that was a reaction to the piriton I was taking for the bites. What a palaver.

Insect bites don’t seem to affect DH and he was sleeping next to me when it happened - wish that insect had chosen him to feast on instead of me!

Watch out for redness extending out from the area. Its useful if you can draw a biro line around the current red area as its always tricky to see if its extended. Take some nurofen as its anti inflammatory and if piriton makes you feel bad, try a hay fever pill, it might take the edge off
