Globus sensation thread

Can I start a thread about this? I hear it's become quite common in lockdown. I am suffering horribly with it and wondered about a support thread for all Globus sufferers! Anyone else?

Just seen your thread, have you managed to get rid of it yet? I’ve had a feeling of having something stuck in my throat for 7 weeks now. GP will only offer phone consultations and keeps giving me antacids

mrsrobin · 17/10/2020 17:38

I have had it a couple of times - I think it is related to acid reflux as both times I had some Ozemaprazole tablets and it went away. I can't remember how long I took the meds for but not over a month. You can but them from a chemist without a prescription so you could think about giving it a go, unless that is what your Dr has given you - you can get cheap un named brand ones - far cheaper.
I hope you get some relief soon as it is bloody horrible!

Meredith99 · 17/10/2020 18:25

Ah thank you, I have been give lansoprazole, I’ve been on the 8 days so not sure if I should see an improvement by now?

GateauxFabulous · 17/10/2020 20:47

I was given Lansoprazole too - made no difference. Mine comes and goes in the day but is there constantly. I'm still waiting for a gastroscopy. It's just awful

I feel for you both, it really is terrible. There are various tablets you can have, all the same family, but slightly different - not sure if any others are worth a try Meredith - maybe ask the Dr. I know it can take a while for them to have an effect though...
Gateaux I'm sorry to hear your meds didn't help, I hope you get sorted sooner rather than later.
It really is depressing isn't it but you are definitely not alone, and it does eventually get better xx

Hi all! This is a fairly new sensation for me that started in March. In my case I firmly believe it's allergy related since taking Allegra D helped. However, because I don't want to depend on that long term, and upon doing some research, learned that Turmeric helps with allergy symptoms. I had some handy from a couple years ago sitting in my cabinet. I took one and I SWEAR it relieved the sensation within a half hour! It's an awesome supplement that has many additional benefits as well, so it won't hurt to try and consistently take. Hope this helps!

I have heard this too. My ent consultant advised me to stop Lansoprazole and start using a steroid nasal spray. I’ve been using this two weeks and it’s more or less gone!

MMB4 · 21/12/2020 13:37

The turmeric helps, but doesn't completely eliminate the sensation. I've been reading a lot, probably my first mistake, but came across information stating that it could be a symptom of premenopause, due to hormone imbalance. I figure it's worth looking into.

I’ve been experiencing this for just over a month. It got to the point two weeks ago that I couldn’t eat anything as my throat felt so blocked I was scared to swallow. My GP has prescribed omeprazole and a nasal spray, which have helped but it’s slow progress, and I’m also taking gaviscon after meals. Thanks for the tumeric tip, I’ll give that a go.

gamerchick · 22/12/2020 19:46

Just to point out the sensation is caused by stomach acid from lying flat in bed. Along with the meds, a low residue diet for a couple of weeks and elevating the head of your bed will give your gullet a chance to heal.

This requires physical effort on your part to fix it. Not just meds.

Delatron · 22/12/2020 22:45

I’ve got this too. Had it last lockdown and it’s started up again. Such an awful sensation. Comes on at night and eases off in the day. I think mine is related to reflux too.

Feel like I’m perimenopausal too so I’m sure this is all linked. I can’t sleep at the best of times so this really isn’t helping!

Will try turmeric.

Hi I have a terrible feeling of water sitting at the back of throat constantly I have acid reflux and think its to with that can anyone else relate to the water feeling? My ears and nose burn too. Its miserable.

nobabiesyet2 · 12/01/2021 23:39

Really sorry that you’re having this feeling. I had this two years ago and I honestly thought I was going to have this forever. I felt like i had something in my throat and then over time it was rising and rising and getting fuller and i thought i might choke. I had never heard of globus before this.
Mine was completely in my head and I knew it because i’d find myself distracted for a couple of minutes then when I came back to earth it was there. I did however take nexium and i think it helped although i really think mine was anxiety and not actually a reflux thing.
Just wanted to say that I know what you’re feeling like and I hope soon it’ll go away/get better x

I have this intermittently - generally brought on by stress for me - the only thing that helps is trying to relax and avoiding all caffiene/warm drinks/acidic drinks. Usually resolves in a few days to a fortnight. It must be awful for those of you who are suffering longer term with it, it drives me mad!
