Hubbys prostate - maybe cancer?!

Hubby went to drs again today after some discomfort he's had before and he's got antibiotics again but he said the dr is concerned because although his prostate is inflamed it's not sore. Waiting results of PSA test.
Anyone been through this and have any advice? anything that might help? if it is cancer what happens? he's only 46 and we were planning TTC next year :(

No words of real help, but the PSA test isn't that accurate anyway. They are best used over several years so that changes can be spotted. How does the dr know it's inflamed? He can't see it, only feel it. so how would he know if this was inflammation or enlargement? (And all men's enlarge as they get older.) If your GP is worried he should refer your DH to a urologist straight away.

Hubby went this morning and had an examination so I guess the dr could feel it was enlarged, he said he expected it to be sore if it was inflammation. Will wait for GP to call us with the blood test results and then see and ask to be referred.

Why did he go anyway? You said 'discomfort' but men can't usually 'feel' their prostate.

Try to keep calm. It may be nothing.

he went because he has symptoms of prostate problems i don't know them all but generally unwell and very sore down below achey etc which is what he's had before when his prostate has played up.

The GP said if it was just an infection it would normally be more sore when they examine it

I've never heard of a prostate infection- maybe that's just me!
DH has an enlarged one as most men do by 60 and he needs to wee a lot but no pain. He has a PSA test now and then just to check . Maybe it's his balls or bladder aching?

All the aching is related to the prostate and its called prostatitis pretty common. Hopefully, someone with more experience will come along

I had an enlarged prostate for years. Two biopsies in 5 years but no signs of cancer. Only actioned when the size of it was causing me to retain urine. PSA probably the most unreliable test in the history of medicine. If you are a cyclist or spend a lot of time sitting, you will have a raised PSA reading. If you have ejaculated within the previous 48 hours before a test, you can have a raised reading etc etc.
Most prostate cancers are very slow growing and respond well to a variety of treatments. Most men over 70 will die with prostate cancer not because of it!
