Massive, painful hives/bites/spots - WTF???

IHeartKingThistle · 01/09/2020 18:54

Seriously, help!

2 days ago I started coming up in what looked like bites. Some on my legs, arms but stomach but mostly (sorry, TMI) all over my bum. Today I've got quite a few more and they are MASSIVE and they hurt like fuck. They feel hard inside with a red dot in the middle and a red area around them.

Possible suspects:

We just got a hot tub last week. It's brand new and I've only been in it twice. I know about hot tub folliculitis but surely not from a brand new tub with all the right chemicals in?

My nephew was in my hot tub at the weekend. He had a weird spot on his back but my mum said it was a bite. Now found out it's shingles.

I can't have shingles because it's not just on one side and I don't think you can catch shingles from shingles? Could I have chicken pox for a second time?

I don't think it's insect bites as DH doesn't have any. De-fleaing the cat tomorrow just in case.

WHAT THE HELL IS IT?!?! I will contact the GP tomorrow but I started a very big new job today and I don't have time for this!!!

Anyone got any wisdom???

It can't be chickenpox anyway, it takes over 10 days doesn't it?

Coronavirus

TTOworker · 01/09/2020 19:07

here

Any other symptoms?

stepbackfromthecircles · 01/09/2020 19:13

Does it look like a target?

IHeartKingThistle · 01/09/2020 19:15

I don't have any spots on my hands or feet so I assumed not. They look just like bites but there's so many of them and more have come up under my (clean!) clothes today.

IHeartKingThistle · 01/09/2020 19:17

@stepbackfromthecircles no not that tick bite sort of ring. And there's too many of them to be ticks I think.

Looking carefully now some of them have tiny white heads with a large red area around.

I had some painful bites. Had to send a photo to my GP got a text saying they had prescribed me antibiotics. No idea what they were as never actually spoke to anyone but the antibiotics has sorted them!

IHeartKingThistle · 01/09/2020 19:23

@Roblakeswife antibiotic cream or tablets? I am allergic to penicillin and antibiotics are awful for my existing stomach condition. God I'm a mess!

SilentStorm · 01/09/2020 19:28

Have you slept away from home recently? Could they be bed bug bites? They can take 24-48 to come up sometimes, and are horrifically itchy if you react to them.

IHeartKingThistle · 01/09/2020 19:31

@SilentStorm had a weekend away but it was the weekend of the 22nd. They did have a fly problem but seems too much of a delay...

It hurts so much to sit down!

Yes unlikely it's that then. I think the GP your best bet. You can get antihistamine cream from the chemist which helps soothe this sort of thing if you're desperate!

IHeartKingThistle · 01/09/2020 19:43

I'd say I'm pretty desperate! Been preparing for this new job for months and now it's started all I can think about is the giant pain in my arse!!! Blush

Do they look like this

stayathomegardener · 01/09/2020 19:48

A picture would be helpful.

troppibambini · 01/09/2020 19:49

Hot tub rash? It's quite common my friends kids had it a couple of weeks ago have a google.

needsahouseboy · 01/09/2020 19:50

Yes post a pic. Also try some hydrocortisone cream and some piriton

managedmis · 01/09/2020 19:51

Fucking hell smug 🤯

IHeartKingThistle · 01/09/2020 19:53

@NotSuchASmugMarriedNow1 what is that?? I'd say the heads oh mine are smaller.

I really don't want to post a pic of my arse! Just eating dinner, will try and find an inoffensive leg one to photograph in a bit Grin

Wondered about Covid too!

But I think that's also 2020 for you!

Also thought about chicken pox from your description. Shingles tends to be in an isolated spot not all over.

reservoircats · 01/09/2020 20:02

Hi OP,

I'm also going through this! At one point I had nine bites, mainly on my legs and bum but also on my stomach. No idea what they are but they are angry and itchy and swell up when I itch them. I've attached a photo of the back of my leg.
I was advised to ring the GP for them to prescribe antibiotics if they don't go away after a few weeks.

NotSuchASmugMarriedNow1 · 01/09/2020 20:02

Never did get to the bottom of what caused my outbreak. They put it down to Uticaria in the end (after 2 hospital visits and mainlining anti-biotics, anti-histamines and steroids). The itchy bit of the rash has gone now but my god it's taking a long time to fade away

IHeartKingThistle · 01/09/2020 20:15

@NotSuchASmugMarriedNow1 oh my goodness!

@reservoircats how long has it been going on for you? Mine are a lot redder than that sadly!

IHeartKingThistle · 01/09/2020 20:24

OK, here's some of them. So sore!

Those are the only 3 in a straight line BTW - I know bedbugs bite in straight lines but those ones I think are a coincidence!

buggeroffvirus · 01/09/2020 20:27

I had very bad hives and rash a couple of years ago, it was so bad I ended up in A and E. After tests it seemed that my potassium was very very low. I spent a few hours on a drip and the rash disappeared gradually. I now make sure that I eat bananas because it really was dreadful and I do not want to risk it coming back. I hope that you are feeling better soon.
