Strange rash on DS

Wonder if anyone can help me out- I’m going to the GP tomorrow but am trying to work out what this rash is on DS inner elbow? Been there about 3 weeks so slow to shift and to be honest I forgot about it until he complained about leg pain and now have managed to convince myself he has something sinister by googling.

It is like brownish colour in real life and he doesn’t recall hurting it although he plays with rowdy friends and they play fight etc.

Anyone got any ideas?

Eczema?

Mondayblue · 01/09/2020 06:12

It’s not itchy and it’s under the skin rather than on top and it doesn’t fade under a glass. Sorry should have put that it in the OP

Take him to a&e

Mondayblue · 01/09/2020 06:38

Really @cultkid I was going to ring the GP at 8. Totally well in himself, no temperature or fatigue

cultkid · 01/09/2020 06:40

well I would ring 111 for that rash

I am not a panicker with my kids
Is the rash only there

Legoroses · 01/09/2020 06:47

Er, I think the GP is fine. Me and my kids get that when we wear hard clothes that catch us. So if I wear a blazer/suit jacket, I'll have that rash on my upper arms where the jacket must be slightly hitting the skin. Does that make sense? Is little bleeds under the skin. (My best friend died of leukaemia so if that's the thing that's freaking you and cultkid out, I'm not going to scoff. But I'd think chafing to that arm, from clothes or a bag or messing about.

Mondayblue · 01/09/2020 06:47

Yes @cultkid really small patch on his inner elbow- I’m a worrier too that’s why I posted- but he really is fit and well other than the small rash it’s 6 or 7 spots and no where else on his body. I’ve managed to convince myself he has Leukemia from over goggling! The GP’s open at 8 I’ll try them first.

Yes @Legoroses it’s under the skin. Almost like an old, very sparse love bite if that makes sense? And yes it’s Leukemia that’s freaking me out- must not google! Rationally I know he hurt his leg playing sports two weeks ago and has probably also got growing pains but it’s the combination of the pain and the rash that’s bothering me

Is it petechiae ?
Where little blood vessels leak under the skin and leave blood stains that go brown.

Mondayblue · 01/09/2020 06:51

Possible @FippertyGibbett but it seemed to be brown from the beginning rather than red fading to brown

OP posts:
FippertyGibbett · 01/09/2020 06:51

But you might not have seen it when it was red at first ?

Mondayblue · 01/09/2020 06:54

Again possibly @FippertyGibbett. I know I need to speak to the GP and I will call as soon they open, why do things like this always happen on weekends or bank holidays? I’ve been worried all weekend but as he is so lively and well in himself felt that I couldn’t justify taking him to any kind of out of hours service

Legoroses · 01/09/2020 06:56

Yes, you can get petechiae as a result of leukaemia but you can just get it from really slight things. Go to the GP. I'm sure it will be fine. You don't need to go to A&E.

JeanMichelBisquiat · 01/09/2020 06:57

That rash looks a lot like petechiae - so could be from injury, but could be something more serious. A non-fading rash like that always needs checking out quickly - bit surprised you've left it three weeks! You need to take it seriously (even on its own, but esp with the leg pain).

If you can see the GP today, I'd stick with that as long as he doesn't deteriorate, but otherwise I'd call 111, as I suspect they might suggest A&E with that rash.

Legoroses · 01/09/2020 06:58

Bless you! It's so hard not to worry about kids.

Mondayblue · 01/09/2020 07:02

Thanks all I think I left it as the rash seemed so small, didn’t spread and isn’t anywhere else and he has shown absolutely no signs of being ill. It was one of those things that I thought I’d check on in a few days but as it’s tucked in the crease of his arm I just didn’t see it. Feel terrible about it now but think because it looked brown when I saw it I thought it was fading and that it would just go on it’s own.

Legoroses · 01/09/2020 07:08

Yeah. I'm 100% with you. Healthy bouncy kid plus petechiae in one place - no way I'd go to the drs with it. Do not feel terrible about it.

Mondayblue · 01/09/2020 07:09

Thanks @Legoroses

You’ve done the right thing. Monitored it and it’s not gone away. Now you’ll phone doc. Let me know what they say.

Mondayblue · 01/09/2020 09:33

Phew GP looked at rash via photo and said it’s post inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Feel so much better. Thinks the sore foot and ankle is unrelated and is a bad sprain which they will X-ray if no better in 2 weeks and it’s just a coincidence he has both at once. Got to call back if spots spread or any further joint pain.

Great! Good news.

Mondayblue · 01/09/2020 10:07

Yep, must not Google! Thanks for all your replies Daffodil

cultkid · 01/09/2020 14:13

Sorry if I worried you x

Mondayblue · 01/09/2020 14:48

No problem @cultkid I’d already worried myself by looking on the internet too much.
