Steve has been very brave this week and has had the treatment that he was saying he would not have.
He is very tired and getting pain in his head so taking a lot of pain relief which makes him feel very odd.
He has finally been honest with his family which i know was very hard for him.
i am so very very proud of him.

Don't know what to say to you oj. What a terribly hard time this must be for you all though. He sounds as though he is being so courageous and you are being very brave too.

RubyShivers · 05/10/2007 15:28

wishing you much love and strength to get through it

cookiesandscream · 05/10/2007 15:40

Sounds to me like you have both been very brave.
how are his family taking it?
and how are you?
are you seeing the mac nurse?
How are the kids coping?

onlyjoking9329 · 05/10/2007 16:37

thanks, i am in awe of his strength

hi OJ don't think we've 'met' before but just wanted to say i am in awe of your strength too. you're an amazing woman

daisyandbabybootoo · 05/10/2007 16:41

I've been reading your threads and just wanted to say what a brave person Steve seems to be and your strength through all of this is an inspiration.

Chemo is a horrible thing to have to go through; my mum had it a few years ago and the cure seemed worse than the illness.

Wishing you strength for the coming weeks of treatment.

He has another 5 weeks but after the first week i don't think he will do it all, he is shattered and they are saying he has 3-6 months left the treatment may buy him some time but it may not be quality time.

munchkinmum · 06/10/2007 21:31

The one thing I learnt about chemo (when I was supporting my mum going through it) is taking each day as it comes.

Keep strong OJ. Thinking of you all often. Rooting for you and Steve.

xx

radio & chemo could give him up to 6 months.
thing is its the radio that shrinks the tumour, he has another 5 weeks of combined radio & chemo then they will stop the radio so then the tumour will continue to grow.
they won't do any more radio because of the brain damage it causes

the treatment will make him poorly, the effects of treatment build up through the treatment, but the hope is that it will shrink the tumour, don't know how long for thou.

Just popped into mumsnet to catch up with

you. i See that the 1st week is over, it

must be so draining for you both. i am

sorry they are saying 3-6 months that must

seem like no time at all.

Do you have the mac nurses involved now?

Also are you aware that you can claim DLA

(disability living allowance) for Steve and

carers allowance for yourself?

onlyjoking9329 · 07/10/2007 22:38

yes the 3-6 months is a bit of a blow
we do have a lovley macmillan nurse she will be visting tomorrow. Steve is not keen on the dla idea, i can't claim carers for Steve or the kids as i get in-capacity due to a dodgy back.

OP posts:
toomanywrinkles · 08/10/2007 18:23

i hope treatment went ok today?
how did it go with the Mc nurse?

onlyjoking9329 · 08/10/2007 21:29

Treatment went ok steve has been in bed most of the time since friday, he is shattered and feels pretty crap, i wished there was something i could do to make things better/easier for him, i love him so much and it breaks me to see him suffer
the kids are starting to ask questions which i am struggling to answer
the mac nurse came this afternoon, steve was in bed when she came so we had quite a chat, she is going to do the DLA form for steve, she also said i could go to the hospice and have a masarge (sp) or rekki (whatever that is)
steve came down and had a chat with her for a short while. he is still not sure about continuing the treatment.
