Has anyone had this and found something that helps with the intensive itching. I have been woken up again with this on my feet and can't get back to sleep.
I swear I could scratch my feet until there was no skin left.

Thanks

I have had this, the itching was awful and I never got rid of it completely, but what seemed to help me the most was taking anti-histamines. I also had steroid creams and hydramol, but I didn't find they really did much. It did eventually get better on it's own. But last summer it was awful, apparently sweating makes it worse.

SewingWarriorQueen76 · 28/08/2020 02:15

Thanks. I'm already on anti histamines for the number of insect bites I've racked up this week. It's aways worse in the autumn and last winter it was awful. I think it's time I went to the GP. It never used to itch this much and it would go on its own. Not sure if it's related but I think I'm starting to get hot flushes and today I was roasting?

Daktacort was suggested when I had this. I think you can buy it over the counter.

worldweary45 · 28/08/2020 18:58

The only thing I've ever found that worked was uv therapy

Not a quick fix!

Damp, cold, cotton socks also used to provide temporary relief -wet them with cold water then wrong out as much as you can before putting them on

Northernsoullover · 28/08/2020 19:00

I burst the blisters. I'm sure I'm going to come a cropper one day with an infection but its the only thing for me that relieves the itching.

MoreRainbowsPlease · 28/08/2020 20:00

Are you allergic to nickel? I am and the dermatologist I see thinks that is why I get it as my skin reacts to the nickel I sweat out. In my experience the GP's I have seen haven't been able to do much, but they did eventually refer me to dermatology who have been able to prescribe me other crams to try, but I have 3 types of eczema and each one seems to need a different treatment!

marvellousmaplesyrup · 28/08/2020 20:08

I have this and I do feel for you OP. It can be utter hell.

Mine has gotten a lot worse since having my DS, and even though the doctor prescribed Betnovate it hasn't cleared it up fully.

If the itching is particularly bad, I do burst the blisters. Like the PP, I'm sure I'll come a cropper one day too, but after bursting I smother my hands in Sudocrem. Have you tried putting on creams just before bed and then wearing cotton gloves or socks to help it soak in?

Didicat · 28/08/2020 20:11

Mine always turns up after periods of stress, no idea on how to stop the itching. I only get little bits on my feet so far but it is hellish and it wakes me so you have my sympathies.

candle18 · 28/08/2020 23:20

My ds had this on his hands and it cleared up with eumovate.

SewingWarriorQueen76 · 30/08/2020 20:53

Thank you for the advice.
I do the socks and cream thing but sometimes it tipped my feet into being too damp. Am persevering with Eumovate though the pharmacy assistant kept saying sudocream, not understanding I could have ripped the skin off at that point.
Thankfully it's subsiding but because it's on the side of my toes it's hard to see, though DH thinks it's also a mossie bite on it too. I mean FFS, the eczema is bad enough.

I do agree stress is one thing but it's the hot/cold of early autumn and late spring that sets it off.

Mine got infected as I burst it...2 sets of antibiotics that knocked me out, betnovate, bla bla nothing kills it. Goes for a few days then back. Ready to chop hands off.

WellIWasInTheNeighbourhoo · 30/08/2020 21:02

I have this, get the strongest hydrocortisone you can (Clobetasol is a good one) and apply thickly at night, it needs to sink in. Usually one dose will get rid of it for me. The less strong ones don't work. Interestingly antifungal creams work too, like daktarin gold. Mine comes on with a change of temperature/seasons. Although I agree with PP nickel makes it worse - so avoid tinned foods.

itsgettingweird · 30/08/2020 21:29

I have this.

Oh my word the itching is horrendous.

I used to take a cetirizine tablet daily

Soak my hands in warms water with Dead Sea salt

Lather in epiderm and sleep in excema gloves.

Even then it was only bareable (just!)

the worst I ever had it. I actually was reduced to tears

itsgettingweird · 30/08/2020 21:30

Yes I also used daktarin gold too.

Gingaaarghpussy · 30/08/2020 22:03

When I first had this, I was told it was caused by stress. Its been the bane of my existence for nearly 30 years now.
I find it itchy before blisters form, scratch the shit out of it and then leave it alone. I haven't found anything that helps. Also being allergic to anything with soft white paraffin in it is a pain in the arse too.

SewingWarriorQueen76 · 31/08/2020 11:38

It's prior to the blisters that itches the most and its usually nothing to be seen.
Thanks for the support. It's such an unusual thing, makes you think you are a hypochondriac.

Oh you're not. It's horrific at times.

Betnovate on prescription works for me.

I'm so glad I've never had it that bad on my hands. I'd be at it with a pin. That looks extremely annoying.
itsgettingweird · 31/08/2020 19:05

Ging not gonna lie. That was a particularly bad time.
I was really worried about this summer and all the hand washing and gel.

But for some odd reason it's been better than ever over August.

Maybe I've accidentally stumbled upon a cure? Grin

itsgettingweird · 31/08/2020 19:07

Btw I once got it on my foot too. That got infected.

I was almost going to be admitted to hospital for IV antibiotics.

I was adamant it wasn't going to shown as was due to go on holiday. But the sand and salty sea seemed to cure that too!

Redannie118 · 31/08/2020 20:12

I used to get this so badly my feet where just one, massive open blister and i could barely walk. Lovely locum GP told me the only thing that helps is nuclear strength steroid cream- the strongest you can have prescribed. She said the lower strength stuff was utterly useless. I was really sceptical when she gave it to me. But it was gone in 2 days and never came back.

itsgettingweird · 31/08/2020 20:24

Red that was what my toe and edge of foot ended up like. I wa surprised to get it on my feet as didn't realise it was so common.

Northernsoullover · 31/08/2020 21:16

I only have it on my right foot. Bizarre.
