Feeling really unwell but Dr's is closed until 2pm

Hi all,

I've been struggling with urinating a lot recently and pain in the kidneys. I know it's not an infection as my urine sample was clear. Im always thirsty and exhausted however today I've woken up feeling so drained and dizzy. I have horrible stomach pains in the upper part of my abdomen. I feel sick. I just rang the Dr's to be told they're on break till 2,getting a bit panicky as I'm feeling so unwell but I don't want to risk going for an emergency appointment and wasting the Dr's time. What do you class as an emergency?

It sounds like an emergency to me. It could be a kidney infection even if your sample seems clear. And if it isn’t a kidney infection you need to know what it is.

Ring 111. That's what they're there for.

AriettyHomily · 27/08/2020 12:51

Just get the appointment.

It's not a kidney infection, I suffer quite often with those and this doesn't feel anything like it. The pain is in my upper stomach, sort of like hunger cramps but worse. Its more so the dizziness and exhaustion that's worrying me, I just feel like something is very wrong

I’d classify that as an emergency.

Notyouraveragecliche · 27/08/2020 12:55

I'll try 111 now ☺ thank you

Hope you're OK, could it be gallbladder issues?

Toddlerteaplease · 27/08/2020 13:03

Could be diabetes, if you are always thirsty. Make sure you have your blood sugar checked.

Notyouraveragecliche · 27/08/2020 13:07

Rang the doctors, said it was an emergency but she said I will still have to return the call after 2 instead.

It may be gallbladder issues I know they suspected that previously but they also thought it was an ulcer. It seems to be more ulcer related but I could be wrong.

I had bloods done about six months ago and they were fine in relation to my blood sugars.

There should be out of hours cover available if your surgery is closed.

Only 111 and a and e during the whole coronavirus pandemic unfortunately.

If you can hang on until 2pm and ring on the dot then do that. If not I would go to A+E to be honest.

cantstopsinginglittlebabybum · 27/08/2020 13:44

Ask for a repeat hba1c, your sugars may have changed.

Notyouraveragecliche · 27/08/2020 17:48

Doctors called me back but was not particularly interested. They said my stomach has been irritated due to medication which is fair enough but doesn't explain the other symptoms. I'm so drained, I slept for hours but I've woken up feeling no better 😔

I am seriously beginning to feel that Covid has become an excuse for widespread fobbing off.
A friend's child almost died recently because the hospital were determined that a telephone appointment was sufficient. Luckily she insisted and kicked up a fuss. Hospital appointment grudgingly granted.
Child had emergency surgery.
Hospitals and GPs are not currently overwhelmed.
Sick people need to be seen.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 27/08/2020 18:27

@Notyouraveragecliche Use out of hours or A&E if you’re no better. You’ve not been left with any choice.

I phoned my GP surgery at about 11am to talk about worsening, fairly debilitating headaches. I got a call back at 2pm and was seen at 3.45pm so it’s not the same (lack of service) everywhere.

I agree. I recently saw a friend for the first time since before lockdown as he was not allowed to leave his retirement village. He's usually a very active and fit 83 year old. Goes to the gym etc. He's lost loads of weight and looks dreadful. Having really bad nose bleeds and the GP won't see him.
