Hello.

Over the last few days iv had blood pressure that goes up and down

Lowest is 120/85 and hugest is 209/159

I was at the Dr's yesterday seeing the nurse for blood blood tests (not related) and I told her I had some readings over 200, she done my blood pressure and said it was currently 149/92 so was OK and nothing to worry about, and no need to see the dr

But the thing is, it's so up and down and been mostly over 175 /110 the last few days although it does go down.

I am on blood pressure medication but my blood pressure is normally completly controlled by it

I'm concerned about the spikes but nurse wasn't worried, I guess I should trust the nurse but I know the readings are very high and I'm concerned

Is the blood pressure OK if it keeps going up and down as long as it doesn't stay up for long periods of time?

Not sure if related but For over a week, been getting a funny feeling in my head where I can't look down or turn around to quick as I get dizzy....
Also feel 'off'

I do have a number of other medical conditions but as I say, my blood pressure is normally pretty good.

Thanks for taking the time to read :)

Definitely ring the GP and get them to review it! If it's normally well controlled then maybe your meds need adjusting. I'd say the dizziness and feeling off are related to it.

142/92 is a fairly high reading too. Yes I think I would speak to your gp

chatterbugmegastar · 26/08/2020 19:08

I'd also check with the doc. A question for you.... do you do cardio? I find that 30 minutes of cardio a day - which makes me puff, keeps my BP 'normal'

chatterbugmegastar · 26/08/2020 19:09

142/92 is a fairly high reading too.

142 isn't too bad but 92 is high (imo)

The bottom number being over 100 is concerning and the top number over 200 is very concerning. You definitely need to speak to a GP tomorrow.

Yy see your doctor!

I'm.no dr but BP over 200 is very alarming. Mine was 240/170 post birth ( pre eclampsia) and a fair few people though I should be dead.

While pg is was 190/120 and I was told to lay on my side while they peeped the consultant in case I had a stroke.

Thing is, each little spike can do irriapairable damage to your organs.

Post pre eclampsia I have lost some of my central vision due to high BP, clot and scarring. Imagine what it could do inside your brain?

No to scare you. But it's not ok to just live with long term

www.nhs.uk/conditions/high-blood-pressure-hypertension/ this says 142/92 is in the high blood pressure range

Few years ago now but I was having high blood pressure and not being treated so started home monitoring. When I hit 215/135 I got in the car and went to A&E. Triage nurse took one look and sent me straight through. They remeasured me at 195/115 but said if it had been over 200 they would have admitted me for emergency treatment. Instead they sent me to the GP the next morning with a letter and I got some medication.

Before that happened, I had a central retinal vein occlusion in an eye, and lost some of my sight. Very luckily, it eventually recovered; most don't.

If you get a reading over 200/130 (either or both) take a photograph of the reading and go to A&E.

A hypertensive emergency is high blood pressure with potentially life-threatening symptoms and signs indicative of acute impairment of one or more organ systems (brain, eyes, heart, aorta, or kidneys).[1] Hypertensive urgency is defined as having a systolic blood pressure over 180 mmHg or a diastolic blood pressure over 110 mmHg. Hypertensive emergency is defined as elevated blood pressure consistent with hypertensive urgency, plus evidence of impending irreversible hypertension-mediated organ damage (HMOD).

At the very least you really MUST speak to the doctor today.
If I took mine now and it was over 200/100 I'd be straight to A&E.

The nurse was negligent imo and should have encouraged you to see a GP ( especially if you're already on meds re: BP.)

sashh · 27/08/2020 12:23

What are you doing or have just been doing before you take the reading?

What are you using to take the reading? Are you taking a reading on both arms? Is the transducer in the cuff directly over a pulse?

All of the above have an influence on our BP, it should go up on exercise and drop when sleeping or relaxing supine.

I'd keep a diary for a week of where and what you were doing, what the recordings were and if you are feeling anxious, have just eaten etc etc then the GP can see if there is a pattern.
