I am obsessing about my 18mo daughters weight (again) - had her weighed today, at baby clinic after a 5 month hiatus. She is now 16.4 kg - to give this context a 3yo around the 91st percentile would be expected to weigh this much!!

I think my 3 yo son only weighs a little more than this (he has consistently been on 98%).

Not sure of her current height but she is wearing 3-4 yo clothes (with legs rolled up etc.) - which is a bloody nightmare as she is also mainly in cloth nappies making her bum unfeasibly large and her clothes are simply not cut for cloth iykwim!!!

Am I breeding some amazonian woman here - she is so healthy and lovely and active - she is still bf'ing and wants to feed at night quite frequently at the mo. and several times a day. I give her (mainly) healthy food.

Should I worry or just burn those damnable charts?

Also where are the clothes for big cloth wearing babies??? I am fed up of squeezing her into next jeans!!! Can't find decent non-pink and yucky dungarees (though do do most of cloths buying at carboot sales so choice is limited)...

My DD is big. She was born over the 98th percentile and has hovered between that and the 75th since then - she is 3 and a half now and people always look surprised when I tell them how old she is as she looks so much older.
My main worry is making her feel bad about being big. You read stuff about children as young as 7 getting issues about food don't you?
I lost it with DH the other day when he commented (to me, not to her) that she was chubby and that he was worried she was getting fat If he thinks she is fat she will cotton on to it possibly won't she?

She is chubby and doesn't seem to be slimming down like her brother did at the same age (he was a gigantic baby and toddler then by 4 was average height and weight) ...

She is healthy and is very rarely sick. She has a lot of activity (she does kindergarten and playgroups, swimming lessons and dancing AND we walk every day) and although she is a very picky eater I make sure she eats some kind of fruit and veg every day. I don't ban biscuits and treats but I have strict rules about when and how much.

I can't do more than that really ...

Thank you Teddi

Ghosty - I think your dd looks lovely - as you are aware of her diet and keep your dd active then as you say there is nothing more you can or should do. If my dd remains on her current curve she will be chubby at 3 but that does not mean unhealthy.

Build is not considered when bmi etc. is measured this makes it a very flawed tool for assessing general health imo. this issue does concern me I do not want my daughter to worry about her body shape or be made to feel uncomfortable about her size - i have been there - body confidence is very important.
