Spatone vs supplements?

I have PP anaemia, suffering constipation from the birth as it is and dreading it being amplified by the iron tablets. There's only so much apple juice I can chug down daily to try to swerve it (and getting bloating and wind from it in the process). I've seen a few good things about spatone, has anyone got experience taking it? Did it raise your iron levels well? Was constipation an issue? Any advice appreciated.

Spatone is great, but as I understand it, not good for true anaemia. But there are some that you can get in liquid form that I believe are higher. Feroglobin liquid, which you can get on Amazon is, I THINK, a higher iron dose but in the more gut friendly liquid format. And Holland & Barrant also sell one but I'm not sure what it's called.

Take an easily digested form of iron tablet, eg iron bisglycinate. Spatone is not enough. Try flax seeds for constipation.

I am on it. No problems since coming of ferrous sulphate and moving onto spa tone. Much kinder on the tummy

Try switching to ferrous gluconate or ferrous fumarate if you get constipation with regular iron tablets (ferrous sulphate). With ferrous fumarate some people get diarrhea. Spatone won't help if you are anemic already. Also take iron in afternoon time with a full glass of orange juice. Helps with absorption and constipation.

I don’t know why Spatone gets mentioned on here so regularly for those who are deficient in iron?

Yes, it is easier on the stomach than traditional supplements, but part of the reason why is because it contains significantly less iron. Prescription supplements can contain say 200-300mg of iron whereas there’s only 5mg of iron in a Spatone sachet. 5mg won’t help to raise your levels at all if you’re deficient!

What are your levels OP?

My GP was amazed that I finally managed to bring up my iron levels with Spatone when I failed with everything else.

Everything I was given gave me digestive issues and constipation so I forget to take more often than I remembered.

Spatone. I added one to a drink in the morning and one in the evening. I kept it by the kettle/sink and just added two a day to drinks.

Low iron that you do take will do more good than high iron that you don't take.

However my iron was consistently low but not exceptionally so and I'm sure that makes a difference.

How about 2 (or even 3) Spatone a day and a tablet once or twice a week. It will take longer but may work.

There's 11mg not 5mg in the ones I was taking and it is (they say) more absorbable which, as it is natural iron in water, makes sense to me but who knows.

I think it can't hurt to add it to your routine and use the prescribed stuff as often as you can.

Once up to normal levels, the Spatone should definitely help to keep it there.

Spa tone did nothing for my anaemia. Nothing did - except pills from the GP. They worked within days, it felt like.

Floradix supposed to be better for you than spatone, but can't remember why!
