Long term PPI

Has anyone taken a PPI for a long time.
What were you taking it for and has it kept working?
I'm thinking this is the only way I can permanently get rid of an acidic stomach. I've tried natural solutions and all the usual home remedies. Thanks

Yes....omeprazole - 20 mg. Excess stomach acid, it really helps!

sadie9 · 18/08/2020 01:29

Yes taking 20mg omeprazole daily for the past 4 or 5 years.

Keep am eye on your ferritin level as long term PPI will reduce your ability to absorb iron.

Ohh thank you... Im thinking that's the route I'm going to have to go. Particularly as whilst I will eat sensibly and avoid acidic stuff in general.. I DO NOT want to have to give up the odd glass of wine etc

I take daily iron drinks (spatone from Tesco) in addition to them.

Oh great idea thanks @windandsunshine
Mine is odd.. I don't get heartburn etc just the burning stomach etc. Had a gastroscopy and everything and not much to see! Think it's worse with stress x

I think I have been taking Lansoprazole for 10 years or so. Usual daily dose is 30mg, but somtimes that is doubled when advised by my GP.

I take it for acid relux. Initially presented with sore chest and reflux in my mouth when I bent over or burpedShock

Now, I have flareups of a hoarse voice at the end of the day due to an inflamed larynx and vocal cords.

Also make sure you take replacement B12, they affect your ability to absorb that too.

wineandsunshine · 18/08/2020 21:38

Yeah mine is worse with stress too! Being a teacher does not help!

Ah thank you all. Yea I can imagine... I think lockdown has shown everyone that teachers do not get enough credit 😊 x
