I had a tooth extracted Friday , on and off it’s been ailing me since late July as turned into a very very painful abscess

I just want to verify that some pain is normal right ? I’m 99.9% sure I don’t have dry socket as the pain is not the agonising pain described and I’m managing to sleep etc

But there is some residual pain as it slowly heals and that’s normal right ?

Also it wiped me out . It’s freaked me how having one small tooth out has made
Me so tired and exhausted !

I’ve rested all weekend , but still knackered !

I had a massive molar extracted a few years ago (I broke it clenching my teeth) and had pain on and off for a week - when I went for the follow up a week later my dentist said it had healed really nicely, and reminded me it was essentially jaw surgery. My tooth had such big roots it ended up being cut into bits to extract, and she describes it as a “difficult extraction”. So yes, I think you are doing grand.

On the flip side, I had an upper wisdom tooth out in the same year (2017 was not my finest!) and it was like taking the top off a jar, no pain at all afterwards.

I had some throbbing after I had a tooth extracted but it was pretty minor and gone in a couple days.

You could be me OP I had a lower molar removed just over a week ago. I had an abcess too and was on antibiotics. Last Weds/Thurs I was in agony, especially at 3am when the throbbing pain woke me up. I went back last Thursday, it was dry socket. She packed it and by Fri afternoon it felt a lot better. She packed it again yesterday and said it’s healing well now. I’ve not taken painkillers since Sat and the swelling has gone down.
Give it a day or so, but I’d probably go back and get it checked.

Sounds a bit odd. Have you been doing the saltwater washing? I had a molar out when I was 23 and I don't remember it hurting. It was totally dead though so maybe that's why. My sister got dry socket in hers but that didn't hurt much either, I think. I'd phone the dentist back for advice.

Its totally normal for there to be some pain after an extraction - you have had a minor surgical procedure

A dry socket really only needs treating anyway because of the pain, if you didnt treat it the socket will heal regardless. So I really wouldnt worry about it

I've just had a lower molar out and yep, it hurt like the devil for at least 4 days, then was just 'pretty painful' for the following week. There's still a hole there now and it was taken out 4 weeks today. I don't smoke and it is indeed healing up but molars can leave a huge hole so it'll take a while.

It can also be painful if removal of the tooth leaves a gap that other teeth want to get into. I had a wisdom tooth peeking out halfway for years and now it's just pushing against 1 other tooth so they're both moving a bit forward. Achy jaw! Ouch!

Oh and the tiredness seems right to me. Depending on how you react to stuff, if you're anything like me the pain and the massive stress of an extraction can easily wipe you out and take it's toll physically.
