Hi,

Some of you may of seen my post about what Im going through At the moment. Im currently going through a health scare with a lot of anxiety on top of it. I now know anxiety can manifest itself in physical symptoms but just really wanting some kind words as my situation is hard and I have nobody to talk too about it properly.

Today i had an Mri scan of my head. Due to persistant headaches and other neurological symptoms. Doctor didnt know if they are being caused by stress or my anxiety but arranged urgent scan because symptoms not going away.

im really fearing the worse now. Today my head pain has been coming in waves and has been throbbing. Feels like someone hits the side of my head when the pain comes on, its so sharp.

I have read that the quicker you get the results, the more urgent the case. Ive been told to call the gp on monday as they should have the results then. Now my minds in over drive as thats so soon after my scan so I think something must of been detected.

had several panic attacks today, heart beating out of my chest. Luckily I have my parents with me for support but dont think they quite see what im going through because they know i suffer with anxiety.

Im a single mum so my mind is all over the place.

Im only 22. Really really scared and upset.

Hello,

I didn’t want to read and run, I’m so sorry you’re going through this 💐, it sounds very unpleasant, not surprised you’re concerned and feeling anxious.

Perhaps your mum could sit with you quietly talking or just for company to help you keep calm and get to sleep? Or maybe try watching some quiet tv to take your mind off it? I don’t really have any suggestions other than trying to keep calm and pamper yourself and -of course, if it gets worse ring 111.

Hope you manage to get some sleep

Anxiety really is the pits and unfortunately I've found that unless you've been through it yourself then very few people really 'get' the hell that you're going through despite desperately trying to understand and it can feel very scary and very lonely.
Rationally it's great that you've had the MRI. You are being proactive and looking after yourself. The fact that you will have the results soon will mean you get any treatment you need quickly and it sounds like they are being efficient and you are being well looked after. Much better to find out what's going on with your head sooner rather than later.
There's also a good chance the dept is quiet and results are coming through quicker and a good chance they know how anxious you are and are pushing them through.
I'm also having health problems and awaiting results whilst battling the hell that is health anxiety.

Not sure if it's helpful but a friend who works in the blood work department of our hospital told me today that non-covid things are taking a lot less time at the minute as hospitals are so quiet and a lot of routine stuff still isn't on. They may just have your results back quickly because they have a lot less to go through? Sending lots of love and positivity to you! 💗

I second what the previous poster said regarding things taking less time to deal with atm as many areas of the NHS have seen a decrease in the workload due to COVID. I'm due an MRI this week and my dr said he may be able to give me the results on the same day.

I totally get where you're coming from with the anxiety (or scanxiety) as I call it. I can't really offer any advice. When I saw someone for anxiety prior to a procedure, she told me to envisage a picture frame and breath around it. So inhale slowly along the top, exhale slowly down the side, inhale slowly along the bottom, exhale slowly along the side to the top then repeat. It's just something that works for me but might be worth a try if you start feeling panicky.

I'll keep everything crossed that your scan comes back clear Thanks

If it was really bad they'd have already got you in.

When I was around your age I started having strange sensations on my head. It was like someone dropping a single drop of cold water on me. Rubbing the area helped, but then I'd get it again somewhere else.
I went to my GP and he said to me it was probably health anxiety, (I'd l had chickenpox badly followed by glandular fever) and it was a sign of stress.
And do you know, I haven't had it or even thought about it since then until this moment when I remembered that scared "something wrong with me" feeling. That was more than half my life away now.

I suspect they've told you to call because they suspect it's stress so they will be able to relieve your mind. If it is something bad, they won't be waiting to tell you. Someone I know had a MRI and arrived home to find an ambulance had already been dispatched. So that is how quick it can be.

When ds had to have a MRI on his head they panicked me twice on it.

Firstly they told me there was a bit of a waiting list, then I got a call within 24 hours asking me to take him in on Monday-3 days away, and it also happened to be a bank holiday. When I got there on the Monday I found he hadn't been given an urgent referral, simply they'd had a cancellation as his referral came through so they offered it to me.

The second time was before he went in they told me he had to be seen by a paediatrician for the follow up and given a date in about a month's time. Fine I thought.
Later that week (on the Thursday) I received a letter saying "the consultant cannot make the 10th June and would like to see you on 8th May (next Tuesday). Panic, I thought. They've found something.
Luckily for me he had an ear appointment at the hospital that afternoon and I mentioned it to the consultant and said I was worried.
While he was having his hearing test she phoned the paed department, spoke to his consultant and when I went back in told me she'd spoken to them and "she says he has a perfect brain, no issues at al, she's just taken annual leave when the other appointment was."

I'm just telling you this to say you can't necessarily read into things (other than the ambulance at the door) and hopefully you'll be able to relax a little. Good luck.

Monday is a long way away in terms of urgent. If it was urgent they would not have you waiting until Monday.
