3 days of fever, GP suggesting A&E

Just want a sanity check as to whether you would be concerned. DS is 4 and has had a fever of up to 38.9 for 72 hours now, with no other symptoms. It drops back to 36-37 with regular calpol, and he is playing more or less normally and eating about 50% of what he normally does when dosed up. But he wakes sweating and shivering at night when due à dose. He had a urine test which came back clear and GP is saying to consider A&E to get bloods. Have yours had temps in this range with no other symptoms, and did you ever find out why?

A pediatrician has diagnosed roseola and not covid and told us we don't need to test or to isolate, so i won't be doing either.

Roseola is also contagious for atleast 2 days after the rash disappears and when the child has a temp, so they shouldn’t be going out anyway now you know what it is.

But, in future, the whole Gov message is for a new cough or temp get tested ASAP or isolate for 2 weeks as a family.

He is obviously not going out as he's not well. I don't feel obliged to explain the entire history of the week but it was not reasonable to go get a covid test in the circumstances. Thanks.

You came on asking for advice. You got advice. Advice that fits the current situation (covid/pandemic just in case you had missed it..Hmm). Children can and are swabbed for covid; toddlers are swabbed, so 4 years old is not too young to be swabbed. Children still present the same as adults; temp, cough, loss/change of smell and/or taste. If your gp is saying that children present with different symptoms than adults then would he care to share with the rest of us!! Hmm
