Are dentists doing fillings yet?

Does anyone know if dentists are allowed to do fillings yet? Just broken a tooth, typically it’s Friday night so not worth trying to phone my dentist until Monday morning.

Depends on many factors, where abouts in the U.K./world you are? Are you private or NHS? Is your dentist still viable and hasn't had to close down completely due to lack of funds/bankruptcy. Has your dentist got a sufficient supply of PPE? It's been so difficult for the profession..
Generally in UK, if NHS, you will probably get an appointment now for a temporary filling. If you have severe toothache and a drill required to get you out of pain, you might be referred to an urgent dental hub.
If you are private, it varies... In our practice we are starting to call back the 800 or so patients that called us during lockdown. We are starting to place permanent private fillings. This takes a lot of effort and is hugely costly. We need to wear enhanced PPE and allow fallow time ( 60 minutes) between procedures.

In short, yes. We are starting to get back to treating patients, but still a long way off normal services. If you call your practice on Monday, they should be able to advised you then

I know my dentist is, because I was there on July 21st. I didn't need anything done, but I was told they are doing anything requiring drilling two mornings a week wearing full PPE.

Just saw the previous reply, so adding that my dentist is NHS, and is in London.

Thank you. I’m in England. My dentist does NHS and private work and I’m happy to pay for private if necessary.

So are they allowed to use a drill now and other equipment needed to do fillings? I understand they’ll be very busy and things will be very difficult for them.

Thanks again.

Yes. Our NHS Dentist, Surrey, has been doing fillings since June 30th.

Thank you. I’m feeling very relieved. I was imagining having a broken tooth and possibly toothache for months. My dentist is lovely so I really hope her surgery comes out of this pandemic ok. Thank you all again.

My dentist is NHS for children and private for adults. My daughter has had a filling, I’ve had two temporary ones and booked in for 4th September for permanent ones. Again only doing fillings in one room on Friday mornings. I’m phobic and the dentist knows how much I struggle and the longer I wait the less chance of getting me in the chair. Especially as I have to go on my own.

My Dentist is Private and doing fillings.

DPotter · 15/08/2020 03:20

I had a filling about 4 weeks ago.

Thisisworsethananticpated · 16/08/2020 09:09

If it gets worse there are emergency dentists operating
My usual dentist couldn’t help (wouldn’t Hmm) so went privately
Good luck , don’t assume you have to wait
It’s not cheapest options. In the end I had private extraction for £150

I’ve had a crown done (privately). They were only doing one patient with a drill per day right at the end so they could properly clean afterwards. They had very strict procedures. It meant that there was quite a wait for some people to get their fillings done.
