not sure that the title really made any sense but need some advice

i never go to the docs so now i have collection of things i would like to ask about when i do go

i am going next week mainly to ask about really heavy periods, bad spots and dark hairs which i think may all be related - also going for eczema

do you think it's too much if i mention that i keep getting a sharp pain in my breast it;s like a shooting sharp pain and it really hurts - it doesnt happen all the time though but when it does it's on and off for most of the day

i don't want the doc to think i'm a hypochondriac so should i maybe break these things up and make another appt at a later date

At my docs you can ask for a double appointment if you've got a few things to discuss. Just get it all off your chest at the same time - especially the pain in your breast. That's what doctors are there for!

Book tow appointments together, when I go I have usually built up a long list of complaints and was told to book a double appointment next time!

NotAnOtter · 03/10/2007 11:44

it all sounds like one ormonal complaint to me so i think one appointment will suffice
breaking it up will not give the gp the full picture he needts to diagnose accurately

alittlebitshy · 03/10/2007 11:45

tomorrow i'm going with a mini list..... prob should have booked a double but was doing it on the automated system so couldn't...
I want to ask about why i keep getting ear infections/pain/bunged up-ness and also to moan about having had 2 m/cs this year and to ask if there is anything to be said/investigated yet ( i know thye say 3 mc/s but the dr i saw after the last one was suggesting she might refer me if i wanted...) and if not to basically get the dr aware that I am stressed by it, so if it happens again i will be wanting help NOW!!!!
And i'm sure there's something else

So, basically, I think it's fine..... You can always apologise and say maybe you should have booked a double...

book double appointment

LucyJones · 03/10/2007 11:47

I think it's fine to mention it all at once.
If it helps I went with bad periods, spots and excessive hair and was prescribed Dianette so that might be what they suggest.

Wallace · 03/10/2007 11:47

Sounds fine - my mum used to take all 5 of us kids along to the same appointment [grin We saved everything up until one of us really needed to go!

BecauseImWereWolfit · 03/10/2007 11:47

Our surgery has a notice up saying that one appointment is for 10 minutes, so sounds like you might need two!

If in doubt, ring and ask the receptionist - as long as you haven't got a dragon (ours are usually very nice but I some aren't so obliging!)

mustsleep · 03/10/2007 11:49

i had enough hassle getting a single appt will apologise profusely then and promise to book double next time

hope it's nice doc i hate it when they try and fob you off or make out like it's not as bad as you think whe it clearly is otherwise you wouldn;t have wasted your time going

Oh mustsleep you are me! I hardly ever go to docs .. can't remember the last time. I have a list and went this morning and feel better for going. I always feel as though I'm wasting his time - not that he makes me feel like that.

I forgot half of my symptoms, so make a list!

macdoodle · 03/10/2007 14:14

oh dear ok it is really hard to deal with a list of problems in 10 mins for a number of reasons...(1) you cannot concentrate and appreciate each problem properly the risk of missing something serious then increases (2) the doc will get annoyed run late and both of you will be irritated not conducive to good appointment (3) everyone else will be irritated because you have run over...but most importantly you will not have got the proper attention or each problem...the period/hormonal thing is clearly the major concern to you I would do that one and book another appointment for the other 2....
