Severe pancreatitis. Anyone else had this?

Has anyone else had severe pancreatitis?

Just home from hospital and I can honesty say I have never felt so darn ill in all my life. I just avoided being admitted to ICU by the skin of my teeth and agreeing to repeated blood gas tests. I had not realised I had spent the past 12 months having mild attacks and stupidly put the pain down to the delights of getting older. Ended up having my gall bladder surgically removed as my pancreas was refusing to settle down wth supportive treatment. Surgeon was of the opinion if I did not have the op as soon as I was stable enough I would end up in ICU and possibly worst.

I am now well enough to be home food is still all bluergh and makes me feel sick. Badly shaken as I did not realise how poorly I had become and I could cry from feeling bone tired and wiped out. It’s far worse than the time I had a really bad run in with influenza.

If you had this how long did you need before you started to feel possibly human again? Getting downstairs in PJ’s is currently a major achievement per day. I am normally very active but every time I try and do anything it feels like I am trying to run a marathon.

Has anyone any tips on very light meals I could try - me standing to cook in the kitchen is not going to happen For a while.

For a while, I lived in miso soup / chicken broth / tomato soup etc and various types of frozen ice treats on sticks (depending where you live - popsicles/ iced lollies etc) - the lemon or lime ones were best (not dairy) - nothing whatsoever with fat - and zero alcohol

Poor you- pancreatitis is vile. My mum had it and I am sorry to say that I feared the worse at one point but she had a nasty biliary blockage at the time so was v poorly anyway. It did take her a long time (several weeks)to recover and her appetite was poor. She had a very restricted diet of just a couple of things she particularly fancied.
She had boneless chicken thighs and weetabix for weeks on end.

Hiya, I've had it twice, the first time I was in hospital for just over a week and then I got it again 6 weeks later! That time I was in hospital for a week again then had my gallbladder out and went home the same day as the op.

Tbh I felt better within a few days but that was mainly because my son was 7 months old at the time and I was still expressing so I had to just get on with it. I had to ignore the advice about lifting him etc. I was on maternity leave though so I didn't have to worry about work.

Mine was caused by tiny gallstones moving and blocking the duct so as soon as the gallbladder was gone there was no risk of it happening again and I recovered quite quickly. I think a lot of it was relief as the pain had been so awful. I would definitely take it easy. I hope you feel better soon, it is a really painful, horrible condition to have Thanks

Oh and in terms of food, soup, microwave meals, toast etc. Keep everything low fat. Do you have anyone who could come and help you for a bit?
