Probable gallstones; pain rumbling on for days and days - any remedies?

I have had pain in my abdomen for quite some time; often just a dull throb in my right side and similar about and above my naval; often pain under my ribs, sometimes a sharp pain in my right side that dissipates quickly and frequently feeling like I’m full of trapped wind.

I finally told my GP as it’s happening more frequently and he has referred me for an ultrasound but who knows how long that will take.
He is confident it’s gallstones having spoken to me twice but decided against having me go to surgery for examination.

I’ve had the pain under my ribs and nagging ache in my side for 10 days now and whilst it is bearable and not stopping me particularly day to day, I just feel so uncomfortable.

I’m already on a fairly low fat diet and am now avoiding fatty stuff.

Anyone able to recommend anything that could help. Thank you.

Flare ups are normal, but continuous pain or discomfort needs looking at.

I ignored mine for 12 days.........until I couldn't as it got really severe over the course of a night.

I took myself off to a&e as soon as they opened at 8 am and was quite confident I I would be at work by lunchtime and home as normal in the evening for my mum's birthday party.

Turned out that a stone had shifted and was obstructing the bile duct! I was admitted and in for 10 days on IV antibiotics. Ended up with an ERCP to remove the blockage.

@Yecartmannew oh gosh! We go on holiday on Monday so I’m going to have to continue my plodding on with it; my GP was unconcerned by the fact I’ve been uncomfortable for over a week this time - implied that was how it is for some people.

If you can afford it then it would be worth getting a scan done privately as it could take months with the nhs. Probably cost about £80 to £100 but you’ll get the results on the day.

I hope it's all ok for you. There isn't really much you can do apart from pain relief.

Apple cider vinegar is said to help but I don't know if it does. My girls bought me some and I took it every day between being discharged from the obstruction and going in for removal and didn't have a single flare up so who knows? Might be worth a try as it's one of those things that can't do any harm and isn't expensive.

Just be on the lookout for any signs of jaundice. When I went in to a&e they asked if I had noticed any jaundice. I said no and the consultant replied "Oh really, because you loom like a minion right now!". Went I went to the loo I was looking decidedly yellow!

look not loom

@WrongKindOfFace I’ll certainly look in to going private.

@Yecartmannew ironically it’s gone to short, stabbing, sharp pains this morning after I’d posted this thread, which is typical gallstones I believe!

We’re only away until Thursday so if it’s awful I’ll speak to my GP again on Thursday evening or Friday. I can’t bear the thought of seeking help on holiday as we’re going down to England and even without covid they seem very stretched where we’re going.

Ugh, stabby, stabby pain was short lived.
Back to the dull ache in my right side.
Applying deep heat seems to help a wee bit. Might be psychosomatic though.

Why couldn’t his have waited a few weeks so it doesn’t bother me on our wee break next week.
