Spinal stenosis - treatment options

My dad has just had a confirmed diagnosis for this after an MRI scan

I was just wondering if anyone else has this and has experiences of treatments that helped with the pain?

He's pretty stubborn and tends to underplay health conditions and dislikes taking medication. Which is frustrating for his family who just want to see him out of pain as far as possible. I think he thinks if he needs it that's a sign that his condition is worse that he wants to think of it as.

Has anyone had experiences of the epidural steroid injections - how helpful they are, how long they might last, if there are any negatives to going down this route? I know it will vary from individual to individual but would be interested in hearing experiences,

He's been told that they are reluctant to do operations except in cases of more severe disability where for eg. incontinence might be part of the picture.

i have a load of spinal injections for this condition over the last few years both privately and on the nhs. the first one worked well but the others have not done much and i am now having IDD therapy which has helped me and i am much looser and less pain. however this is not a cure and i am now looking at interspinous implants - this is minimally invasive and is in fact spacers put in between the knobbly bits in your spine to take the pressure off the spine which is narrowing causing the pain. i can manage it more or less now but i do not want heavy medication and of course with age the condition becomes worse. - so i am looking into spacers, i find the nhs want to do very little just heavy medication and physio which helps but is not really the answer.

I have this diagnosed from MRI.
Not had any treatment other than physio.
It doesn't cure but it's much better I now have some moves that relieve it when it flares up

O this is weird seeing this come up from 4 years ago!

I hope you both get treatment / management options that work best for you.

My dad chose not to go down a medical pathway and is actually doing really well with just stretches and religiously attending a yoga class since that MRI. Age 75 now and he seems to be in a much better state than he was 5 years ago with just these conservative management options.

@suggestionsplease1 I hadn't spotted that it was so old! It sounds like your dad went the same way as me. Stretches and bends!
