Piles - is this normal

pinky987 · 31/07/2020 09:45

I have been having problems with piles for the last few weeks due to my ibs playing up and causing me to be on the toilet a lot.

I have been using Anusol cream however I contacted the drs who have prescribed a suppository to try which I am going to collect today. I didnt get to go into the drs for it to be checked they just prescribed after I filled in an online form.

What has worried me is last night when I went to the toilet I felt the pile come out which is does sometimes do but then when I went to wipe my bottom it was still there and it felt like I was tugging it when wiping. I put more cream on after this and went to bed and this morning dh had a look for me and said he couldn’t see anything so I’m guessing it went back in. I am worried that it will pop out now and not go back in.

Should I contact my drs again for them to check it out or do I try the suppository first and then see how I go?

Hi, yes this is normal! As bad as it sounds what you have to do is poke it back in after a few days with suppositories this should settle back down x

Thanks @mummaliketoeat I’ve not had them like this before so was worrying and because of Covid I have not been able to have them checked by anyone at drs as they are mainly working online for non urgent queries

Can I just tell you what has saved my life with piles.....boot own brand witch hazel bum wipes. So worth it, try them, they are expensive but if you....ahem remove most of the residue with toilet roll, then finish with a wipe, game changer.

pinky987 · 31/07/2020 19:10

Thanks @LordOftheRingz I’ll look for this in boots when I next go.

I have used the first suppository today and can say it is not an experience that I particularly like.

I have given up with annual, and just use sudocrem. I also have a bit of lactulose while im having a flare, as they are smoother to pass. It is 100% diet, chocolate being one of the biggest culprits.

Have you tried the FODMAP diet to work out what it is that is your trigger food(s)? My gp sent me to an nhs dietician and they got me to do that.

If you can work out what not to eat you will be so much more comfortable in your tummy and rear end.

pinky987 · 31/07/2020 20:52

@LordOftheRingz do you find if your using sudocream that is enough to help with them?

@Elieza thank you. I am actually due to start seeing a dietician next week with regards to low fodmap. I am paying privately as my gp wouldn’t send through nhs. I am really hoping that it helps as at the moment I am just trying to avoid any food that sets me off but the other day I had 10 bowel movements so obviously that was not good for my piles.

I hope it helps OP. I did the fodmap with booklets the nhs gave me from a university. I think they do an app too. Scores and scores of foods you can’t eat. Lists of suggested alternatives.

It was difficult to follow the rules at first, as there are so many, but it gets easier as you memorise things and don’t need to take the book to the shops to consult!

I ate mostly the same thing for days on end as I knew they were allowed, but once I worked out all the ingredients in the foods I used and knew what to buy each week (or avoid) it really helped me do it.

My tip is to take your glasses if you wear them to the shops so you can read all the small print in the ingredients on the products you’re considering buying. Take your time. Things are in there that you wouldn’t expect and can’t have!

Make a lot of your own meals from scratch as you know exactly what’s in them. Batch cook. Get used to boring food for a few days.

It didn’t help me and the dietician said that was because my problems kicked in days later and if I had a problem it would kick in right away. But at least I tried. I hope it works for you.

@Elieza thanks for all the information and it’s a shame it didn’t work for you. I’m hoping it will go well as has been really bad recently.
