Does this sound like cervical cancer?

I’m 40 and always had regular Smears which haven’t ever shown anything. Last smear 3 years ago, next due in December.

Been on the pill tricycling for over 20 years. Very occasional breakthrough bleeding but often crampy. Always quite a lot of discharge normal colour etc but annoyingly heavy.

In March had quite a bit of breakthrough bleeding and constant thrush and cystitis.
Full blood tests came back normal. Also normal urine tests but still felt full bladder and cystitis symptoms - irritated bladder etc. Spotting eased as did thrush but discharge (clear but every day need a pantry liner) continued.

GP referred me to consultant. The more I read the more I’m worried that it’s cervical cancer.

Any experience or advice would be much appreciated.

Not necessarily cancer, no.

I had bleeding outside of menses with discharge, had a urgent referral too but it was just a cervical ectropion (so nothing to do with cancer)

The cystitis symptoms could be due to the thrush

I have been told I have an ectropion. Could this cause symptoms?

Ohhhh right, that’s reassuring as an ectropion isn’t cancerous so try not to worry yourself! It’s quite minor in the grand scheme tbh.

I had it treated with silver nitrate and it hasn’t returned. The treatment itself was quick and only mildly uncomfortable (I do find speculum exams painful though, so you might find it painless)

Yes the ectropion can cause the bleeding and discharge. I think the thrush & cystitis are probably unrelated though. I didn’t get that. Hope you’re seen soon as the combination of the 3 sounds thoroughly unpleasantFlowers

I find them really painful which they always suggest might be the ectropion.
Really grateful as worried sick

Yeah I found exams extra painful with the ectropion, but do tell the consultant/nurse as they have some tricks to make it more comfortable!

Good plan.
Hopefully I will get some reassurance and a plan. It’s so horrible thinking the worse

Could it be possible to get cervical cancer between smears?

When is your appointment with the consultant? The bleeding can be explained completely by the ectropion. I hope you’re seen soon and able to get some reassurance.

Next week! The waiting is driving me mad xx
