Nurse: why did you come here instead of GP?

Me: Because only one bus here, two buses to GP?

Nurse: Why didn't you register nearer your home?

Me: Nearest ones weren't taking on

NUrse: You need to register nearer home, who's your HV

Me: Haven't seen one yet

N: Why not?

Me: Only just moved from ***(difefernt city)

N: You need to see HV very soon, whats her name, i will ring her and pass on your details, you need development checks for all 3

Me: Don't know her name yet, but have been sent appts for next week

N: Definitely next week?

N: Good, i'll ring her, whats your drs name and address?

I gave her details

N: what your name, whats husband name, do you both have parental reponsibilty, cos we get aunts, uncles etc coming in with children they have no PR over

what had you goe for? she sounds thorough if a little abrupt.

VoodooLULUmama · 01/10/2007 12:18

a lot of the questions are probably ones they ask everyone

also, they have to clarify if you should be see n there rather than GP

at least she was thorough

DaisyMOO · 01/10/2007 12:18

Sounds like something out of the 1950s. How patronising.

jobekal · 01/10/2007 12:19

because i thought they had croup, but apparently just a bad cough

oh and altho she said they needed development checks asap, she said they seem fine apart from coughs and development was spot on, which actually i was going to start another thread about as my 3 and a half year old is very behind in some ways

oh and said your need to ask your HV about nurseries

i said she started last week, she said oh good, whats the name of the nursery, where is it?

maybe she just wanted to make sure i as settling in and had enough support with three young ones but it seemed a bit much to me,

it sounds like she was just doing her job. She probably has loads of paperwork for every patient she sees and she has to ask you those questions.

It's good that she complimented you on breastfeeding

If you are concerned about your child's development, it is a good idea to see a health visitor, if there's nothing wrong, they will reassure you.

VoodooLULUmama · 01/10/2007 12:26

she was trying to be helpful i think, got in touch with doc, said she would help to get HV appointments, asked if any family nearby and gave thorough advice

"good that will help them get better, go and see dr if money is tight for some medicine, or go to pharmacy if you can afford it and i'll ring your HV"

go to the pharmacy if you can afford it. erm why should you. that's what doctors and the nhs are for - free medicine!!

newknifenewslain · 16/10/2007 00:02

Erm, efficient I guess.
