...what do you use as a replacement, since these tablets are now out of circulation.
I had a migraine with aura one hour ago, I just took 2 (out of date) pink tablets, and already my vision is back to normal and now just have a manageable headache.
But i have only 2 further (out of date) tablets left, so am a bit anxious as migraines seem to be returning to my life.

For those that used Migraleve, what do you now use to get rid of your aura and migraine?

I just got my first prescription for sumitriptan but a bit nervous to take it having read the side effects leaflet!

TOTM due in a few days which is when migraines usually hit. Anyone take this and not found the side effects too bad?

EddieVeddersfoxymop · 27/07/2020 22:26

Sumatriptan literally saves my life. Chronic migrainer here. I took a year to pluck up the courage to try it, and I wish I'd done it sooner. The first few times I took it I broke the tablets in half. It made me a little groggy afterwards but now I'm used to it. No side effects for me now, just relief for 99% of my migraines.

GCAcademic · 27/07/2020 22:29

Who told you it had been discontinued, OP? You can still buy it at the moment.

Allmyfavouritepeople · 27/07/2020 22:33

Syndol is what I use now. Contains codeine so i imagine it's similar to migraleve.
Not had as many during lockdown so I also recommend giving up work sarcasm

If I take ibuprofen with coca cola (on a non-empty stomach) when I have an aura/early stage migraine then it doesn't turn into a full-on migraine, but I usually still get sleepy and have trouble with words and mumbers. If I leave it too late, than it has no effect at all.

wrensandrobins · 27/07/2020 22:45

I brought it today! It's the only thing that works for me over the counter since my doctor will not help- I get them every month the week before my period

Ellapaella · 27/07/2020 22:52

I take ibuprofen with paracetamol at the same time if I have a really bad migraine. My main issue is that mine last exactly 72 hours so I need to take painkillers continuously for that time. If I take them together I can get relief for about 9-10 hours if I'm lucky. I don't exceed the stated 24 hour dose on either.

cantknowwhoiam · 27/07/2020 22:56

My doctor recommended 900mg of aspirin and it works just as well and I don't get the drowsy feeling afterwards either. Far cheaper too Smile

Happyinheels · 27/07/2020 23:01

There was a point where it was discontinued but I've bought it recently so I'm not sure if you're aware it's back or whether it's been discontinued yet again??? I really hope it hadn't been discontinued again because it's all I can get that stops my aura and sickness!

Sumatriptan, Propanolol and anti- emetics- all on prescription for me. It depends how
many migraines you’re getting- if you’re a chronic sufferer(15+ per month) or get more than a couple a month, the medical advice from my consultant was to take triptans, as paracetamol/aspirin/co-codamol and ibuprofen all give you rebound headaches and become less effective over time. However, I hope you can buy what you need- we all have our ‘best-fit’ solutions and it’s miserable when you can’t get hold of them. I am aware from a pharmacist that one of my prescription drugs for another condition is currently unavailable, due to the factory burning down last year. I wonder if this has affected the availability of a variety of medicines?

MorningManiacMusic · 27/07/2020 23:09

Another one whose life changed with sumatryptan/imigran.
Syndol used to work when it had whatever was in it that sent you off your face (in quite a lovely way really Grin) but when they took them off sale (5-6 years ago poss) and reformulated them to just paracetamol and codeine that was no good.

I'm having a stinker of one today and have run out of imigran so am gently kicking myself and guzzling ibuprofen.

MorningManiacMusic · 27/07/2020 23:11

Onceupon- the side effects aren't bad. I get a sort of sensitive to hot tastes feeling in my mouth sometimes, I kind of like it to having a chili stuck up your nose, but it's sooooo worth it.

inmylifeIlovedthemall · 27/07/2020 23:13

I bought some very recently in Boots.

There was a supply problem a year ago but I understood that had been resolved.

AllTheWorldIsGreen · 27/07/2020 23:13

Migraleve pink was out of stock everywhere for a while but it came back. While it was unavailable, my teenage son was prescribed paracetamol or ibuprofen together with cyclizine for the nausea. It was pretty effective but he was getting migraines so regularly he got a prescription for triptans which he was very excited about but hasn't had a migraine since so he hasn't tried them yet. Fingers crossed it's been six months now.

WhatInFreshHell · 27/07/2020 23:16

Nurofen Plus is the only thing that works for me. 2 tabs and a nap, I'm usually good to go after that.

Legoandloldolls · 27/07/2020 23:18

Oh God please tell me this isn't true! It's a failsafe for my migraine. I cant take anti sickness tablets without barging. They have to go under your tinge normally. Dont then dissolve and just the taste / sensation makes me want to vomit alone.

A disolvable co-codamol can work but it's got to be early or again the taste makes me feel sick.

I might try aspirin one day but as quick action is key I would need to have dh near me for the kids as mine are getting g worse and i can no longer cope with them at all. I'm debilitated within 15 minutes

SisyphusAndTheRockOfUntidiness · 28/07/2020 08:19

I got some pink migraleve in Boots yesterday. I was quite worried after reading this thread, & don't have many left, so went straight down. Apparently they don't have any supply issues, & haven't heard anything.

I do wish people wouldn't just casually recommend triptans for migraine as if it's a cure-all. They are not suitable for all types of migraine & in fact for some (including mine) potentially dangerous, increasing the risk of stroke.
