So I’ve had visible blood in pee on multiple occasions, no infection, ex-smoker but under 45. What should I expect from my GP? Should they still refer me to a urologist?
The blood was maybe 3-4 times in the past 8 months. Usually brown. Didn’t think anything of it - assumed it was breakthrough bleeding between periods. Been on the same Pill for 18 years and not had this before, but just assumed it was period blood. I’d never seen anything about how you should always check out blood in pee.
Spoke to GP about some overactive bladder issues that have been getting worse (leaks, constant need to go, disrupted sleep as I’m up so much in the night) and didn’t think to mention the blood - think I was asked and said no as I just didn’t think I’d had the kind to mention. GP said she’d refer me to local women’s clinic that does physio etc and also did a urine test.
Then came across info about how blood in pee is always something to check out, realised I should’ve mentioned it and contacted the surgery. Have had text from GP saying my blood test had just a trace of blood and increased leukocytes so she’s sent it to the lab, and she’s booked a phone apt for Tuesday when she’ll have the results back.
I can see the results now on the patient app. No infection. I’m under 45, but presumably they still need to check it out. I wondered what to expect - a urology referral? Anyone had similar? I’m worried I’m making a big fuss about something silly.
