...NHS says he is ok and not contagious...so I am just giving him lots of neurofen etc. Poor boy even has them in his throat (sympathy please!)

goodness, maybe he actually has measles? (not from the vaccination, had caught it prior to vax and it was incubating?)

blazingsandals · 29/09/2007 21:17

Why not from the vaccination - it is a live virus (albeit attenuated). People have developed it from the vaccine you know. It transmuted a couple of years back.

Poor soul astrophe - hope he feels better soon (and you too!)

when did his spots start? was he poorly straight away with temp?

Astrophe · 29/09/2007 21:21

he hasn't got a fever at all, but is off his food and grumpy. The spots started on Thurs night, worse by Friday am, but no worse since then.

According to the NHS he will not be contagious to any other children, so I ook that to mean he could not have the 'live' virus.

hoping he recovers really quickly astrophe x

same thing happened with my boy, measles rash started on his face, chest & back and moved to his legs and arms over the course of a couple of days, about a week after his mmr.

He also had a raging temperature.

NHS advised to dose him with calpol & calprofen to keep his temperature down, sickness etc lasted about 3-4 days but he was poorly for a few weeks. I was told by various people that its fairly normal with the mmr.

seeing the extent of the rash was very scary but he was okay. hope your boy feels better soon but if he had a temp. that I couldn't control with meds, or the rash changed in nature (you know what I mean)I'd be paranoid mummy down to A&E.

goingfor3 · 29/09/2007 21:43

My girls and I all had measles a few weeks ago and there is very little you can do ther than give calpol. I hope he feels better soon.

dinny · 29/09/2007 21:46

God so does that mean they'd be even more ill with measles - are you even more glad he had the jab?

ds had his single measles jab on Thursday, so we'll be in for it next week then!

however, I have read an ingredient in the rubella component of MMR acts as an adjuvant, making the symptoms more severe...

your poor ds, Apostrophe - hope he has a peaceful night and better day tomorrow. x

Astrophe · 29/09/2007 22:13

I guess we are getting off lightly - h has no temp and is grumpy and miserable but not really sick. I would def take him to A&E if he had a high temp as well, or seemed really poorly. Poor lad is finally asleep now, dosed on neurofen, so hopefully tomorrow will be better

ah poor little guy.

it gives me so much sympathy for my parents, my 2 brothers & I all had measles at the same time when we were tiny. bit of a hazy blur for us but a nightmare for them I guess.

Astrophe · 30/09/2007 21:13

Oh dear - on chatting with a gp friend today it transpires he actually has hand foot and mouth! And there I was happily exposing his infectious self to all and sundry! I googled it and apparently the damage was probably done already before he came out in spots but still...

...Although...just to shift the blame slightly and make myself feel better...I filled out a questionaire about the rash on the NHS website and it assured me that it was safe to treat the rash at home, that I DID NOT need to see the GP, and did not say anything about HFM or that it could be a contagious rash. Last time I ever trust the sodding NHS. Grrrrr. (and I do feel better now!)
