Skin peeling on palms and soles of feet - like sunburn

ILoveJoeBrown · 17/07/2020 13:46

Having had a week or so, where the palms of my hands had peeling skin - blisters which you could peel off like sunburn. Not painful, just very flaky.

Now my hands seem to have recovered but this morning, the soles of my feet have started to peel in the same way! What's causing this? I've not been out in the sun, nor using different creams/oils/chemicals etc. I tend to wear gloves when I'm cleaning, but that doesn't explain my feet?!

How is your mouth? You could have hand, foot and mouth disease. It was rampant in my child's school when she was in nursery.

I had this once after a bout of norovirus, I have no idea to this day how or why it happened! The only thing I could think was that it was some kind of allergic reaction to pepto bismal I had while unwell?? Or a maybe a reaction to the virus? It was bizarre, sorry I can't be of much help!

I came to post my DS had this after hand, foot & mouth.

picklemewalnuts · 17/07/2020 14:21

It could be the start of dishydrotic eczema or pompholyx

My hands and feet peel constantly now.

ILoveJoeBrown · 17/07/2020 15:58

Hm - decided it's not hand, foot, mouth as there's nothing in my mouth and the blisters aren't red or painful? Just looks like a snake shedding its skin! Similarly, doesn't look like dishydrotic eczema either?

If it's a nursery/infant related thing, my kids are aged 17, 21 and 22!

were they lots of tiny fluid filled blisters that itch? that's dishydrotic eczema

acocadochocolate · 17/07/2020 18:22

Covid?

picklemewalnuts · 17/07/2020 19:39

Dishydrotic eczema does have the little blisters. However since having it complete with blisters, I've also had random peeling skin on my hands and feet.

ILoveJoeBrown · 17/07/2020 19:39

Not tiny or fluid filled - quite the opposite - very dry and air-filled. Not red or itchy, so rules out eczema and covid [I hope]

Hope you're not eating - here's a photo. I've peeled some of it off earlier, but you can see how dry it is. It doesn't hurt and isn't itchy.

DD had similar at the beginning of lockdown and didn't have HFM. Just air filled blisters in one finger that peeled and then moved to fingers on both hands then palms. It carried on for weeks and they looked almost red raw in places particularly the fingers tips and were painful. We went to pharmacist as it was peak covid and he said try E45 which helped.

In fact, I just asked her if they were still like it and she said no, but her feet are.

Therollockingrogue · 17/07/2020 19:47

It’s common after scarlet fever too .
The skin on the fingers goes all papery and peels

picklemewalnuts · 17/07/2020 19:48

Mine look like that. It may be the start of dishydrotic eczema.

I find that I get some superficial bubbles, but also some really deep ones that are dry and scaly by the time they reach the surface,

ILoveJoeBrown · 19/07/2020 20:14

Will have to keep an eye on in. So far, my hands are completely fine now, with hardly any intervention, but feet still peeling nicely. No red pus-y blisters, just dry scaling.

Had a sports massage yesterday and she noticed that I am very dehydrated [other symptoms entirely], but I am always dehydrated as I don't drink enough. My skin has never done this before though, so not sure what's suddenly changed. I'm thinking along the infection of some sort line?

If it doesn't improve this week, I might go and flash my feet at the local pharmacist.

I have this too OP. I’ve had a couple of waves of it, getting less serious each time. I have no idea what it is. It started a week or so after lockdown.

AriettyHomily · 19/07/2020 20:23

Contact dermatitis

brimfullofasha · 19/07/2020 20:34

Looks and sounds very similar to my eczema. I used to think it was normal to shed your skin every summer until I spoke to friends who put me straight!

BobbinThreadbare123 · 19/07/2020 20:45

You would bloody well know if you had pompholyx (aka dyshidrotic eczema) because it's the itchiest thing in existence! It begins with itching and then the blisters appear. Palms, fingers, soles, toes and also around your nose is possible. My hands split and bleed with it.

ILoveJoeBrown · 23/07/2020 08:39

BobbinThreadbare123 - you poor thing! Hope you get some respite from it?

BobbinThreadbare123 · 23/07/2020 14:44

@ILoveJoeBrown yes, when it's not flaring up it is completely quiescent tbh. But - the steroid creams wreck your skin; I now can't use fingerprint recognition on iPads and the like now Sad
