Pins and needles in top of back

MrsBtobe1208 · 16/07/2020 16:29

Has anyone experienced this and had it looked into?
It's happening quite often. It feels like my back has a wet patch then the pins and needles come on.

I don't know if it's related to my c section 3&1/2 months ago?

I'm at the doctors next week for a smear so will mention it then just looking for experiences?

Did you have an epidural at any point? I ask this because I received nerve damage partly due to three epidurals I had during labour. I also have other spinal/muscular problems. Some related, some not, but I am very familiar with nerve related tingling.

The tingling is likely due to some kind of nerve damage or possibly a herniated disc. I have this tingling almost constantly, in various areas and is always due to either a trapped nerve somewhere, and in extreme periods it has been due to a herniated disc pressing on my spinal cord. And yes, your description of it feeling 'wet' is quite good, it can feel very much like that.

I would perhaps see/speak to your gp; depending on where the tingling is will depend on which area a nerve is trapped/inflamed/damaged. And this is not always immediately obvious. For instance, I currently have it going down the inside of my arm into the side of my hand/palm and my little finger and its 'next door neighbour' and I know that's caused by a trapped nerve or slipped disc at the top of my neck.

Often it can be helped with anti-inflammatories (perhaps try some ibuprofen gel around the area for a couple of days), before anything else is suggested. If necessary you may need to take oral anti-inflammatories. But firstly, do try and speak to your Gp as a starting point, and hopefully this will start off the investigation process if it doesn't settle naturally.

Oh, and you don't mention it, but do you have any pain anywhere?

MrsBtobe1208 · 16/07/2020 18:41

They said it was a spinal but I'm assuming it can't be that different to the epidural?

I do have pain and it's where the pins and needles is (but not both at the same time)

Thankyou for the advice I'll definitely try the gel & will be mentioning it's when I go to the doctors next week :)

Hi, I'm having these symptoms too -did you ever get it resolved? It's driving me mad! I'm almost 10 weeks PP and it's progressively got worse as the weeks have gone on. Currently on co codamol as can't take anti inflammatories due to being on blood thinners. I'd love to hear that it got better for you, and any advice you can offer...

Sorry @Clairebear2123459 I've not been on here for a long time!
It did ease off after a couple of months of it happening, though now I've said that it'll probably start again
