Does anybody have silent reflux?

And, if so, how are you managing it? I have had a lump in the throat/dry throat feeling for ages. I was given steroids for post nasal drip months ago and now I've been given lansoprazole but so far no change.

I don't know if it's related but recently ive had some rib tenderness/discomfort under my left rib. But it's the throat feeling that is really annoying me.

My diet, I've just realised, is not great for reflux - very caffeine heavy! But I don't really fit the other symptoms of GERD (heartburn etc). I'm just looking for some idea of what silent reflux feels like for others and how you've managed it. I'd really appreciate any advice and tia :-)

I'm suffering from nasal drip and reflux but GP only interested in treating reflux, so this thread is music to my ears!!

@Literallyfedup thanks for your recommendation, also going to give it a go. Are these the tablets you took?

@FedUpWithBriiiiick yes these are the ones along with piriton 2mg. This have decongestant - phenylephrine and you have to combine it with antihistamine - piriton to have the complete effect on post nasal drip.

@Literallyfedup Thank you 😊

I dont know of i have this or sinus issues.. awaiting ent appointment but I get post nasal drip which results in very thick mucus that I have to cough to get up. Pain in ribs, sore throat. Its awful with the current situation. Anyone else with silent reflux experience these symptoms?

okiedokieme · 17/07/2020 08:43

I take Zantac twice a day, keeps it at bay

Figmentofimagination · 17/07/2020 08:57

I've been thinking I have post nasal drip as well. I'm constantly coughing because of phlegm stuck in my throat. I get a blocked nose every night, I click if I'm led on my back, it can make me snore, and I get sore throats a lot. I've only noticed it more now because with covid I've become very aware how much I cough and worry someone will say something.
I also get acid reflux, but no other symptoms of heart burn, usually if I've been drinking.
I did start on loratadine as I heard that can help with post nasal drip, only on 2 weeks so far. It's good to know what others have tried and what works for them. I might look into it.

Asterope · 17/07/2020 15:30

@AstridAv I have sore, tender ribs and upper abdominal aches, but I don't really cough. Sometimes my tongue and throat feel very dry but I seem to have enough saliva so God only knows what is happening

OP, have you had Covid? Reflux seems to be one of the lingering symptoms of that.

Asterope · 17/07/2020 15:59

No definitely not Covid, I first went to the doctor about pain under my left rib and Globus; but now the Globus/throat thing feels much worse and I still have the discomfort in and around my ribs.

The doctor said she'd refer me for a scan but the letter is a long time coming! I might have to ring and chase up. It seems like maybe it should be an ENT specialist I see. No idea if it's all related. But it's driving me mad with worry!

@Literallyfedup does it have to be piriton or can it be any hay fever tablet as I'm using loratadine at the moment.

Literallyfedup · 17/07/2020 17:24

@Figmentofimagination I have not used loratadine recently so can't say but loratadine only works for allergic rhinitis while piriton works on both allergic and non allergic rhinitis so probably would cover a wider range of post nasal drip. But I am no doctor and the pharmacist advised piriton so I just took that.

Hi @Asterope I know this is a zombie thread but just posting on the off chance you see it and have any update on what helped you?

I’m having a really weird globus sensation and CONSTANT need to clear my throat and it’s driving me mad. Doctor reckons it’s likely silent reflux but doesn’t seem to be suggesting anything to help except potentially doing an endoscopy (great!). Did you have a feeling of discomfort in the throat like you wanted to clear it all the time? I think the more i do this the more it gets irritated and produces mucus, so vicious circle …

I’ve got some famotidine left over from when I had traditional reflux last year and it seems to help a bit - but I’m not convinced it even is reflux, as how can they tell that? I might need to have the endoscopy after all :( it’s causing me huge anxiety
