Burn!

Ouch. I burnt my arm a couple of days ago. It’s not big and I did run it under cold water. No probably not for long enough. I never do. Blush
It blistered and the blister has kind of peeled off. I’ve been keeping it covered during the day (dealing with animals and I keep catching it) but also trying to let air get to it when I can.
It HURTS!! I’ve tried leaving it dry and clean. I tried putting a bit of savlon on it. Stung!
Is there anything I can put on it? Should I not cover it? It’s at my elbow and on the inside of my arm and rubs on my clothes. The skin feels tight. But I’m guessing Vaseline would be an awful idea.
Sad

Go to the chemist and get a proper burn dressing , they can advise on what’s best for the particular area . I had a massive burn years ago and the hospital prescribed me jelly dressings and flamazine cream .

Thanks Floral. I think I will have to. It’s not huge. Just in an odd place. To add to it I have underlying medical issues and I’m supposed to be shielding.

You need to keep the area clean then apply a jelonet dressing, with a mepore dressing over the top to hold it in place. I've had many burns due to be a complete klutz Blush

Forgot to mention you can order both of these on amazon if your still shielding

Wolfiefan · 15/07/2020 20:35

Thanks topee. Yep I’m a klutz. Blush

No problem! It will help with the pain and help it heal properly without drying it out too quickly. The jelonet is basically a gauze soaked in a Vaseline type solution to keep the area moist. It's honestly a life saver!

Off to order now. It’s so sore. And ordinary plasters are bothering my skin too. Shall order a few for the next time I’m a klutz! Grin

Your burn could be infected. So it would be best to have your GP look at it or go to a minor injuries unit if you have one in your area. The area may need to have dead skin removed and dressed properly. You may also need a course of antibiotics.

Burns need to be taken seriously, however small. I speak from experience.

Wolfiefan · 16/07/2020 07:44

Fairly certain it isn’t infected. I have fibromyalgia so things hurt more than they should. It’s just in an awkward place so I keep catching it. Plus it feels “tight” where it’s healing. But thanks for the advice.
If I get additional redness, weeping or heat I will get it seen to. And if it doesn’t heal well then I will do so too. Thanks for the advice.
