I think my DD may have slapped cheek, she has not been very well for the past few days and today she looks like she has been tangoed, do I need to take her to the docs / take any special precautions with her?

No I don't think so. DS had it, was grumpy for few days then ok.

DD always looks like she's got it!

No I don't think so. Two of my children had this and it was a very mild illness. Just the usual things: plenty of drinks, calpol for temperature, etc. Someone will now come along and give an example of how serious it is, but I can only speak from experience.

It's important to keep her away from pregnant women though as it can be dangerous to the developing fetus.

,my DS (9mths) had this a few weeks ago, Doctor said Calpol and /or Nurofen as per bottle as they may feel niggly but it will go off own accord and don't need to put anything on the redness....it can go and come back again though.
We thought it had all cleared up , then hey presto 3 days later it was back!!!..

I do not know anybody who is pregnant as I know it can cause problems in pregnancy (I was exposed when pregnant with her) but luckily I'd had it as a child/at some point in my life. So I dont need to worry too much there. And everybody I know is relatively healthy, I just wanted to make sure I didn't need to get her in at the docs or anything, or keep her off from the CM's

my Dr said it wasn't contagious once it has appeared it you get what I mean...

frumpygrumpy · 28/09/2007 21:43

I agree, once its appeared its no longer a danger to pregnant women. My DTs had it a few weeks back and I did nothing except a dose of calpol when they were grumbly.

coleyboy · 28/09/2007 21:43

I don't think there is anything that can be given to treat it.

And ditto regarding staying away from pg woman.

I hope your dd feels better soon.

Oh yes my doctor definitely told me the infectious period was passed once the rash had appeared.
