How long after you stopped smoking did you stop craving?

I stopped smoking 2 days ago and most times I am distracted enough to not crave a cigarette BUT when I do, it seems like it's 100x worse and stronger than normally. I really do not want to give in and buy cigarettes, I just want to stop and not go back. I guess my question is...if you managed to stop smoking, how long did it take for your cravings to go away? I just want to be able to get to that point where I no longer need or want to smoke a cigarette.

I quit in 2009 and definitely remember about 10 days in being really REALLY hard.
I did have nicotine chewing gum which helped, but I remember reading that 10 days was a hard spot for many people.
A drink seemed too “wet” without a smoke to go with it!
I did think “ will I ever stop craving nicotine?”
The answer is an emphatic “ yes!”

It takes a few months, but you WILL get used to it.
I saved the money and bought something I really wanted but couldn’t justify before.
You can do it.. the cravings WILL passSmile

I've known people feel absolutely fine and urge free within a few weeks and others still missing smoking many years on. The latter are definitely over the nicotine addiction, it's the act of smoking, the surrounding rituals and the thoughts and feelings associated with it that they miss.

NRT tends to really boost smoker's chances of quitting successfully.

I gave up in 2004 using patches and didnt really get cravings as such. I did however have dreams about smoking up until about 5 years ago!
Keep going!

Well done OP - such an amazing achievement!

It’s been 8 years for me and I have to confess that I still absolutely love the smell! but once I got those first few weeks under my belt I knew that I would never go back, no matter how strong at times those cravings were.

I think the secret is really wanting to give up, I’d had enough of smoking by the time I quit and it was just a horrible addiction I knew I had to finally break.

I stopped smoking 10 years ago. I had stopped and started but this time I was really determined.
First couple of weeks were tough, remember be really snappy but started to feel the benefits fairly quickly.
It’s the most beneficial thing I’ve done for my health and so pleased I finally managed to stop.
Keep going OP.

Honestly every day for about 3 months but it gets less and less I've been stopped 3 years and still now and again I crave. Keep going you learn to live with it.

I've been forced to stop due to menthol ban (I'm furious) I bought a vape with menthol juice, it's not been a bother whatsoever.

I think it is the ritual I miss most it probably is psychological cravings.

I had my last cigarette 25 years ago when I found out I was pregnant. The fact that I was pregnant, gave up alcohol as well and also had hyperemesis made it easier. All I could think about for nine months was nausea and vomiting.
I've never had another cigarette and 99% of the time I loathe the smell. The exception is on holidays if I go to a bar and have a few drinks and someone is smoking nearby. I have a nostalgic sniff.

Hardest thing I ever did, but such a huge sense of achievement.
First week hell, I sucked boiled sweets , but craving does go away gradually after that.
Keep going- you will feel so much better. We're rooting for you !
