I've been referred and I'm a bit nervous about anything around that area!! Has anyone been and what are they likely to do/ask?

Urologist are mostly referred in case of kidney stones, repeat UTI, cystitis, bladder issues, kidney issues. The tests are usually done by ultrasound and sometimes x-ray and MRI. Why were you referred?

Tanfastic · 14/07/2020 21:14

I've been referred in the past. Could you provide some more info? Why have you been referred?

QueenCT · 14/07/2020 21:30

Basically massive amount of leucocytes in my urine, and urge to go constantly. It feels like a UTI but they aren't finding any infection, just some blood and the leucocytes
Haematology (who I am seen by already) described it as a very heavy inflammation from the results
No pain, burning etc etc. Just a kind of "need to go" pressure almost all the time. Relieved slightly with antibiotics but then comes back again

Oh i get this...

Im waiting for a referral...
Not helpful to you though, OP. Sorry

Literallyfedup · 15/07/2020 06:48

You might have an upper abdominal ultrasound then to look for any infection/stones. It won't take away the problem but making urine less acidic might help with urgency. Drink some alkaline water or take Alka seltzer- it will decrease urine acidity. Whatever is causing your inflammation, acidic urine will make it worse. Cystopurin - which is usually taken for cystitis might also help.

Literallyfedup · 15/07/2020 06:51

Sorry meant to write Eno instead of Alka seltzer. They both have same ingredients but Alka seltzer has added aspirin which doesn't suit everyone.

First time I went it was just chatting / discussion about symptoms, I was then referred for an ultrasound and also a flow test (drink a lot and then pee in a special toilet which measures how much etc), I then ended up having various other tests including cystoscopies, uro dynamics and tried many different treatments but this was over a 4-5 year process.

I have been referred to Urologist in the past, I was having lots of UTI, bladder issues are quite common with my disability (MS)

My specialist nurse suggested that I try taking D-mannose powder. I take two small scoops a day in water, it’s flavourless so easy to take.

By the time my referral came through the Urologist, seemed confused as the infections were are around every 6 weeks & I hadn’t has one in 4 months, he said to me what’s different? I am taking D-mannose powder twice a day, he was aware of it and said whilst it doesn’t work for every patient, the results are great for ones it does.

I think D-Mannose only works for e-coli, I have been UTI free for nearly 2 years now.

Good luck OP.

I've been taking d mannose but haematology (long story!) said it possibly won't help as there isn't any infection? It's just inflammation
They've dipped my urine and sent it off and every time it's full of leukocytes and blood but nothing on the culture
Had bloods done which are all fine, vaginal swab showed possible BV which I had antibiotics for but they said it was barely there and they were only treating to see if it helped basically
I've been on nitro whatever it's called! Haematology said not the best antibiotic for UTI or me and is couriering me some over today (shielding)

I have Interstitial cystitis / PBS and I had microscopic blood, constant need to go etc. No pain and d Mann didn't work and no infection so antibiotics made no difference.

QueenCT · 15/07/2020 09:27

@nmg85 what can they do for that? I read a little about it

It is completely different for each person. Took me 6 years to find a treatment that helped me. That ended up being something called parsons cocktail which I had instilled into my bladder directly. Feel free to message if want to discuss anything

QueenCT · 15/07/2020 10:14

Thank you. I have some more antibiotics on their way so just waiting for the referral

I had investigations for something similar late last year, I had an ultrasound and two cystoscopies - they didn't find any physical cause so I've been advised to take d-mannose/hiprex/cranberry.

I had two cystoscopies because the first one showed up some spots (not sure what the technical term is here!) which they were fairly confident were from an infection and would go - next scan a month or so later was clear so they were right!

I hope you find something that helps OP Flowers
