Broken tooth

I have broken one of my back teeth. At first there was a piece that was mobile but still in place, but that has gone and I have a big jagged hole.

I rang the dentist and was told no appointments allowed, but to buy some temporary filling paste and do it myself. First one lasted two days. Just done it again.

I had to have a tooth removed after an abscess wasn't treated properly a couple of years ago so worrying about that. Is there anything else I can do?

Not really. A temporary filling should protect the tooth. It depends if its decayed or broken, most teeth break because they are decayed

Did the dentist say why they wouldnt see you? Dentists should be starting to open, they might have a backlog of emergencies to deal with but they should be getting round to seeing patients like you.

What do you mean an abscess wasnt treated properly? Any tooth that has had an abscess is already at the stage of removal or a root canal depending on the severity of the abscess/patient choice

Obviously keep the area really cleam as well

The dentist said they were not taking appointments - that was it.

The abscess was under a different tooth. The dentist x-rayed and cleaned it and gave me antibiotics. However, I have limited movement in my jaw so the x-ray was difficult. It was only when I went back to a different dentist in the same practice and described the extreme sensitivity of the tooth that he took a better x-ray and found decay that had spread.

Thats a bit crap. Are they NHS or private? I think some NHS dentists are basically saying they cant get PPE

Decay doesnt spread from tooth to tooth. You had two seperate decayed teeth. The dentist treated your abscessed tooth but you had another tooth that also needed to come out.

dh broke a front tooth in May. Dentist saw him about a month ago to assess, he has an appointment to xray etc in two weeks but still no timeframe as to when they might be able to treat it. Dentistry has got overlooked in the return to normal programme. Unless you are in pain you would need to wait, private or nhs.
