Gallstones

Hi, does anybody have and tips or tricks on how to deal with the pain from gallstones?
I have a 9 month on baby who is mainly breastfed but does have a bottle of formula at night time before bed, I didn't produce enough for him. I have had the pain since December last year, did have an appointment with a surgeon to have it removed on the 28th May but with everything that is going on it was cancelled which is understandable. Anyway new telephone appointment on the 11th but the pain and flare ups are getting worse. Its been every night now for the past week and 2 or 3 days a week up to that point. I have been given codine by the hospital and only take one dose when the pain is unbearable (I pump and dump for 15 hours until it is safe to breastfeed again) paracetamol and ibuprofen don't work and now having a hot bath has stopped working. I'm currently on my 6th night of very little sleep and I'm exhausted, irony is that my baby sleeps through the night and I don't haha. What can I do to ease the pain until I get it removed? Any help would be greatly appreciated Grin

Until you get surgery, which is the only cure, you need to carefully watch your diet. Avoid fats. Google it for more info.

I found Buscopan helpful with mine, you can get it over the counter.

You need to identify what causes the pain. For me it was fatty foods. I couldn't eat anything with more than 7 gram fat out of 100 grams.

I agree with others - the only way I found to prevent it was diet. I ate plain pasta for a lot of meals. Occasionally I went crazy with a piece of toast with marmite (no butter)

Also I found certain fruits caused me pain.

Back massage eased the pain and lying on my side.

Sympathies. It's excruciating. Hope you get it sorted ASAP.

If I did have a flair up then a very hot water bottle on hot shower on my back sometimes helped.

Fingers crossed you get the op soon .

Agree with the low fat diet but I did get to a stage where anything I ate seemed to set it off

hot water bottle or hot shower!

I suspect I have gall stones, I spoke to my GP and she seems to be of thev same opinion this is a possibility. For the past year I've had intermittent stomach pain which is intense but ease off after an hour or so. Sunday morning I woke at 4am with the worst pain I've had in my life. I was practically in tears. My husband was so concerned he dialled 999 for an ambulance, convinced I had appendicitis (though I think is more common in younger people than the over 50s). However there was a delay and when I had a phone triage from a paramedic about 30mins later it had eased and I told them I didn't need it. I've since googled the symptoms and it does say about fatty food bringing on an attack. We had a chippy tea Saturday night. Last night I was in less pain but still threw up several times and didn't sleep till 4am. I'm feeling like I've got a hangover this am but I haven't.

On hindsight maybe I should have gone to A&E but I'm very wary of misusing NHS resources. I'm an NHS nurse myself and my husband's a retired HCA, we know how stretched it is but when I spoke to the GP yesterday she said if the pain was like it was Sunday to just go in as this could possibly fast track the tests. She's referring me for scans, bloods etc. She did say about avoiding high fat foods which I could do with anyway as I need to shift some weight.
