Itchy vulva - not thrush!

Hi everyone, been suffering with this for a few months now and it's pretty unbearable.
Have just had a good look at the area and the vulva and inbetween leg creases are quite red, and of course very itchy. Can't see anything else that looks unusual.
I instantly thought it was thrush (even though no discharge or soreness) so used Canesten for a few days, along with their pessary. This didn't work.

I have tried calamine cream with zinc oxide and glycerine as apparently is good for itching, hasn't really helped either.
Currently using clotrimazole anti fungal cream along with hydrocortisone steroid cream but I don't think it's doing much either

Don't think its heat rash as it came on rather suddenly and it really hasn't been very warm this summer!

I am going to make a phone appointment with the doctor but I feel embarassed and just wondered if there is anything else I could try.

I use non parfumed soap down there, used the same one for years, but have also tried just water to no avail. Not an STD, also not pregnant.

Thanks so much for reading, any advice would be much appreciated.

See your doctor - then go to the chemist in the meantime and talk to the pharmacist. They should be able to suggest something as a short-term fix.

Are you menopausal and/or type 2 diabetic?

Thanks for the fast replies! I'm 20 so not menopausal, also not type 2 diabetic.

I probably should have added this in my first post but I can't work out how it may have caused this. I was trimming that area with some scissors and trimmed closer than I meant to. I didn't nick the skin or anything but it resulted in the pubic hair being very blunt and causing the itchiness.
However this was months ago and the hair is well grown back in so I don't understand why I'm still experiencing this. I wonder if the scissors I used were unclean and have transmitted some sort of bacteria to the area.

Your doctor should be able to tell you, so make the appointment ASAP. It's nothing to be embarrassed about - you can ask for a female doctor if that makes you more comfortable, but an examination of this kind is an everyday thing for health care professionals.

Definitely get a GP appointment but also call the pharmacy. They can also advise.

Multigyn actigel, from Boots or Amszon, should help,it is very dood for your problem

Look up Lichen sclerosus.

Could easily be localised eczema. It can just start up like that. You need to see GP and get betnovate ointment, that will.stop the itching.

RandomMess · 08/07/2020 20:54

The area is very sensitive/delicate and what started as irritation from trimmed hair could now just be an itch scratch itch cycle.

Yes to going to the GP but some thick and soothing cream like dermol or vagisal could be a solution in the meantime.

Could it be bacterial vaginosis? I got this from using a different laundry powder. Really itchy and red. From what I understand it’s an imbalance in the PH.

I had this and assumed for years that I had a recurrent thrush issue. After multiple swabs during itchy bouts came back negative, I was referred to a specialist dermatologist.
Vulva eczema was diagnosed, I've never had it anywhere else. Was prescribed Elocon cream (a steroid) which was used in decreasing amounts over a few weeks, now use it rarely.
Given current situation, it may be a while before you are able to be seen/examined.
I was also advised to wash area with emulsifying ointment (which felt strange as I'd only ever used water there). Now use one with same main ingredients called 50/50 as my chemist doesn't always have the ointment. 50/50 is like washing with Vaseline though, you don't need much!
No harm in you trying that in the interim.

Have you changed toilet roll?
