DH has a scan early this week. Results today, they've kept him in hospital

GP said there was evidence of a blood clot near his kidney and told him he'd arranged for him to get some blood thinning meds at A&E. That was this afternoon, DH is still there and has just been told he's not coming home tonight.

1 - if GP hadn't led him to believe he was just collecting tablets he'd have taken a bag and a phone charger

2 (and most important) they've said they're very concerned about the blood clot moving towards his heart/lungs and also the possibility of infection. They're keeping him in to give blood thinners and antibiotics intravenously.

So, exactly how worried should I be?

With circumstances as they are, I haven't even been allowed to take him any bits, so I haven't seen him or the doctors and he's never very good on the phone (which is nearly flat anyway) so I'm not sure I have the full picture.

You should be far less worried than if the GP hadn't sent him in. Even if the clot travels and blocks something, they can get him sorted out when he's on site, but if he was at home it would be much worse.

It's an absolute nightmare not having visiting access, but make sure you have telephone access to the ward and keep yourself up to date.

Thank you, that's very reassuring.

Yes, the GP did well.

He's not on a ward yet.

My MIL is in Hospital. We can take a bag to reception where there is a pick up and collection area. Theres a sticky label to fill out and put on the bag. It may be worth ringing to see if your Hospital has a similar scheme.

I'd be anxious as it's hard when you don't have all the facts but be reassured that they are taking precautions and looking after him.
Imagine him taking ill at home. They've recognised the problem and are treating it before potentially something could have gotten worse/gone wrong.

He's probably not on a ward until they've got negative covid-19 results. That's what happened to ds when he went in.

Also as someone else said, you can probably leave a bag at reception. We weren't expecting a 3 day stay and I had packed ds' pj and a phone charger just in case, but almost nothing else!
