Painful area in breast - worried

After ignoring a painful breast for too many weeks, and the pain being more constant I went to see a Gp. Gp could feel a more solid area of the breast that was where the pain was.

I was not sure if I had a lump when triaged on the phone, but she said I had a more solid area - the language used. It is not moveable or that she can tell, but I have large breasts sadly which make checking them harder she said.

I am anxious and worried. As I have left this two months and would not normally leave anything. Plus the pain is not abating so is there to remind me. Suggested to take max dose of ibuprofen each day until seen by a specialist.

Wondering if anyone had similar symptoms - pain, not cyclical, in one breast, a solid type are felt and had good news.

So have you now been referred to a breast clinic? That's good. No experience myself (I have actually had breast cancer but it was a painless lump) but you did the right thing going to see the GP and the breast clinic will be able to sort you out and get to the bottom of it. Flowers

I’ve had breast pain which turned out to be muscular injury (mainly referred pain from a shoulder strain). First had it 15 years ago and it recurs occasionally. Could you have had anything like that?

Pain is good, I have heard!

Hope you are ok. The wait can be worrying xx

Cloudburstagain · 03/07/2020 19:27

Thank you @Highperbolay - yes I have been referred under the two week wait system and have an appointment 15 days after seeing the Gp. Am glad it is not any longer... part of me wants it next week so it is over with and part of me wants it further away if that makes sense. Hope you are all ok now.

My lumpy area is painful so I have been told to take the maximum amount of ibuprofen each day. I can still feel the soreness through the painkillers.

When it started the pain was sharp, stabbing pains - now it is a constant soreness and worse when I have my toddler lean on me etc.

@DuckonaBike I would be thrilled if that was the cause. May I ask did you have a more solid area in the breast or just a pain?

@Tuemay I am hoping so. I would be happy to put up with the pain ( well, sort of!) if pain is all it is.

I have a very ill relative, close to me, right now, that I was hoping to see in their nursing home as I have had to shield so not been able to. They are very ill after COVID- so now not sure what to do.

Tumours are generally painless, which is why diagnosis is not as early as we’d like- they need to grow to a noticeable size.

Good to get it checked, but pain is a good sign.

Thank you. I had a great Gp and I was so impressed with them only getting me in for the examination and doing the rest by the phone but I came away having no reassurance ( not that they can reassure when referred under a 2ww I guess) and she said she was not satisfied that there was nothing to worry about - so I fear that she was warning me it was bad news,

If that makes sense?

But I do not know whether that is normal as I have not had anything like this before.

@Cloudburstagain No I didn’t have any sort of solid area. Though from your description I am a very different build from you (I am extremely small of tit). I don’t know if that’s relevant. However as others have said pain is not usually a sign of anything serious, and in my case it definitely wasn’t. Hope you get some reassurance soon.
