Advice regarding long term naproxen use

My mother is 75 and has been waiting for hip replacement surgery this year however Covid-19 has sadly put paid to that and she will be waiting much longer.
I discovered this week that she has been on naproxen for 2 years without having had any blood tests before each subsequent prescription. This week she had bloods taken as has been suffering constant nausea and back pain in the last 3 months. Doctor immediately took her off naproxen and diagnosed Acute Kidney Injury (hence back pain).
Someone I know (medically trained ) has suggested that keeping my mum on. naproxen for this length of time without very close monitoring is negligent and obviously ending up with AKI could be very very serious if she doesn't respond quickly to coming off naproxen.
Also her surgery will now be delayed even further as her kidneys now pose a massive risk.

Just looking for some advice from anyone who may have experience or professional knowledge of this.

Thank you

a relative was on naproxen for over a year for treatment of a chronic inflammation.

they were made very aware of the side effects at every appointment and had blood tests every 3 months.
pharmacy were shocking though, sometimes gave out thd medicine in a plastic bag without package leaflet, but that's another story.

I don't know the answer OP but I got given these yesterday by my GP so good to know they can be dangerous. Got to say they have worked though !

they are very effective.
short term use is usually ok, but some people react badly to nsaids (gi and cardiovascular side effects)

Yes really dreadful- it needs to be discussed.
