Thyroid nodule

Hello!

So to cut a long story short, I have a very large prominent goitre, developed soon after giving birth to my DC a month ago. Had multiple bloods etc but no indication of undrractive/overactive thyroid. Had an ultrasound today and I've got a 6cm(!!!) thyroid nodule. GP told me more than likely thyroid cancer as thyroid function bloods are normal (although antibodies are high). Need to have a biopsy.

I'm terrified. I'm almost 31 and have a 1 year old and 3 year old. Petrified about leaving them without a mum :(

Any advice is welcome.

I was diagnosed with having a 6cm multi nodule goitre a couple of years ago. All blood work was in range. It was scanned a few times and they were happy that it didn’t look suspicious so I just have yearly blood tests now to check my thyroid function.

If you have antibodies, that is NOT normal! It doesn’t mean cancer, it indicates hashimotos. I found some extremely knowledgable people in this forum healthunlocked.com/thyroiduk. Hopefully you can get her some information that will reassure you.

Thank you Chitty. Just really hoping I get my biopsy soon.

Yes I've wondered about hashimotos. I did see a consultant for a while last year but they never tested my antibodies. GP ran bloods last week and apparently they were high but she's confused as well by that alongside the 6cm nodule.

My nodule has grown loads in the last year so think they are worried from cancer perspective, it certainly makes me more anxious too.

Will look at the site. Thanks & glad yours wasn't of concern.

If it is thyroid cancer, then that is one of the most treatable cancers. I found www.butterfly.org.uk/ very useful when I was diagnosed.

I had a goitre the size of a tennis ball removed as it was pushing my windpipe out of place and I was starting to struggle to breath. (I thought I was just unfit!) It had also started to grow under my collar bone. I'd had numerous biopsies and had fluid taken from it but it was becoming more and more of a problem hence it was removed.

Mine was completely benign. This was nine years ago and other than having to take a high does of levo I'm relatively fine! I had two little ones at the time, 1 and 3 and it was a worrying time. I found out Christmas eve that it was all ok.

Fingers crossed for you

Thank you everyone. Your responses have made me feel better. I had a call from the ENT nurse today and she explained that if it is thyroid cancer it's very treatable which I found reassuring.
