It might just be a brewing cold. And tiredness.

You know, we had this bug in the house a few years ago. My sister was staying here with her daughter, while my husband was away. Her daughter picked up a tummy bug. And when my gp refused to just prescribe antiemetics for me, we called out a private doctor on a home visit. He told me the following. When there is a tummy bug going it is perfectly possible to avoid being ill, even if you have the virus in your body, by avoiding ALL fatty and sugary foods. Only plain bread, ham, water etc for a few days, and you will be fine. Sugar and fat sets it off. Now, as soon as I suspect a bug, I change the diet in our house. No sweets, no treats, no cakes, crisps. Plain pasta with tomato sauce, ham sandwiches etc. So far it has worked.....

SO, CHANGE your diet NOW. No sugar, no fat, you hear me!

Let us know how you get on.

Oh, I dont know about wine, is that sugary? I always like to think of wine as having negative sugar content, lol. Sure you can have ONE glass just to calm yourself. BUT stay off the olives!

Interesting Starry night. Next time I'll give that a try. We'd do anything to avoid this - right?

Niecie · 28/09/2007 21:29

V. Interesting Starry. If DC are ill I give up eating too. Totally lose my appetite. If I have anything it will be a slice of toast.

The danger is that you take it too far and never eat anything sugary or fatty ever again. I can see that a person could get obsessive. Actually that wouldn't be a bad thing - I could do with losing a few pounds. Could market it as the emetephobe diet!

StarryStarryNight · 29/09/2007 09:15

Well, it is an approach worth trying!

Putitdown, how are things?

codswallop · 29/09/2007 09:16

rahter htan starvign your kids why dont you all go and get therapy?

StarryStarryNight · 29/09/2007 09:18

Cod, nobody says anything about starving the kids, just avoid stuffing themm with sweets and fatty foods! It is healthy in any event. What is wrong with wholemeal sandwich with ham, and a pasta with tomato sauce?

codswallop · 29/09/2007 09:18

nothing but god if i was scared of puke id fakrign go and get help not wiffle on about it on here.

StarryStarryNight · 29/09/2007 09:20

Oh and Cod, most therapists are banging on about facing your fear head on, how do you suggest we conjure up a situation where we can face this fear?

But thanks for the suggestion. I am sure nobody has thought about it before.

codswallop · 29/09/2007 09:21

look at puke?
dunno am not a therapist btu some peopel who post on here have had htis for years! go and get hlep dont be so wussy

StarryStarryNight · 29/09/2007 09:21

sweetest cod, much as I like fish, i will not get drawn into another argument with you.

codswallop · 29/09/2007 09:21

you may eat me
i may be off!

StarryStarryNight · 29/09/2007 09:24

If you were salmon, I would pan fry you with ginger! But seeing as you are COD, I think I would just boil in lightly salted water, eat with new potatoes and melted butter. loooovely.

For the other effect, you should really be prawns.

minko · 02/10/2007 13:43

So relieved having read this thread that I'm not the only one having panics about vom in the playground, ill looking kids and the like.

I went to the doctor the other day to 'wiffle on' to him about it. He looked pretty non-plussed and asked what I thought he could do about it. I'm not going down the hynotherapy route as it seems a bit useless, but he did give me a prescription for anti-emetics which was a huge relief. At least I don't have to worry about me if and when it happens...

putitdown · 02/10/2007 19:27

Minko you are not alone people on here are great at support
