My short sightedness is worse again after 2 years and I'm 29

I'm 29 and short sighted. I had an eye test 2 years ago but I know it's worse again because writing is a bit blury on the TV despite wearing glasses. Apparently short sightedness stops around age 20 so now I'm worried.

I often wonder if I'd survive a zoombie apocalypse wearing contact lenses or whether I'd loose them and be doomed. That thought alone makes me want lazer eye surgery.

Thanks for the replies. I’ve had My eyes checked and have had one flash but had it checked out was told it was fine. My eyes are dry too I’ll try that gel mentioned too

I have been wearing glasses since I was 7 years old, I have been wearing varifocals for a few years and have -6.75 and +1.00, to read I take my glasses off as it is clearer.
A few years ago my DP and I took a gap year, we travelled in Australia and lived in a tent for 10 months, when returned to UK my eyesight had improved from -7.00 to -6.00, the optician put it down to living outside with no artificial light.

Mine still change, I'm 28 - it's not something I've ever been told to be worried about Smile

This thread is making me very envious of other people's prescriptions. My last one I was -20.5 Blush

bananamonkey · 03/07/2020 08:54

I didn’t even become shortsighted till 27 so I’m not sure that’s correct, it changed every couple of years but not by huge amounts (from -0.5 to -2.25) and has been stable for about 5 years even through 2 pregnancies (38 now).

JacobReesMogadishu · 03/07/2020 09:05

@Bagelsandbrie thankfully dd does get on with contacts well so rarely wears glasses.

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 03/07/2020 09:16

Mine has continuously deteriorated since age 15. I’m 56 now, and sick of the cost. Without fail I need new glasses every 2 years.

And once it got so bad really quickly, l had to have a brain scan. But there was nothing there.

I am that person getting their phone out in the restaurant to use the torch to read the menu - use the magnifier, it's even better.

jomaIone · 03/07/2020 09:19

I've been going more and more short sighted since my teens, and never heard anyone say it's abnormal. I was told it'll get worse for a few years quite rapidly then slow to a stop eventually. I'm 32 now and need a new prescription every 2 years!

JoyFreeCake · 03/07/2020 09:26

Love that bit where the optician asks if you have floaters, and when you say yes, asks "how many" 🙄 — if I look at a pale surface, my entire field of vision is layers and layers of this shit, with threads and plates and dots wafting around all over the top of that 😂 But as long as it's not getting any worse, NBD…

My short sight has wandered around in the –10 to –12 region since my early twenties, but my astigmatism has got worse so I now need toric contacts 🙄

JoyFreeCake · 03/07/2020 09:27

It's like a permanently morphing mesh of stringy bits! I'd be counting all day. I often think I see flies in the room when there aren't any, then dismiss actual flies as floaters 😆

EasilyDelighted · 03/07/2020 09:32

I always thought everyone had floaters, I've always had them. It's quite relaxing looking up at the sky and watching them swoosh about.

JoyFreeCake · 03/07/2020 09:35

Otterses, do you use high-index aspherics or something kooky like a myodisc?
