In July DS had to go to the hospital for a urine flow test (routine check-up as a result of an operation to correct hypospadias at 13 months old). The consultant was concerned and then sent him for an ultrasound on his bladder.
The ultrasound revealed that he is not emptying his bladder completely. The doctor doing the scan said that it is normal to have about 5ml left in your bladder after weeing, up to about 10ml is acceptable. DS still had about 20ml.
His kidneys were fine according to the scan.
DS is 4, has been dry in the day and night for just under a year. Occasional bedwetting, which has become more frequent recently, which we have put down to him starting school and being more tired.
He has never had a urine infection, or any kidney problems.
We will have to wait to see the consultant to discuss the scan, and God knows when that will be!!!!
What are the implications of him not emptying his bladder - does it mean he will start getting UTI's? Will they put him on some sort of medication, or is there a way of training the body to empty the bladder?
