Why have I always been constantly knackered especially in the afternoon?

For as long as I can remember (school, uni, work and now SAHMdom) I have never had much energy. It has always been a struggle to get out of bed in the morning no matter when I go to sleep, I'm OK for a few hours in the morning then I completely crach in the afternoon. About 2-3 times a week I have headaches too. Today I feel completely zombie like and my head is pounding.

My diet isn't the best but not the worst either, I eat my 5 a day and am veggie so probably more than that. I have a maximum of 2 cups of tea a day although most days it's like one. I do have a sweet tooth but thats more of an evening once the DDs are in bed.

I constantly feel run down especially in the afternoons feel very lethargic just cannot be bothered, I've felt like this forever so it's not just kids, I feel tired then I get a headache and I try not to take loads of pills but sometimes it's the only way I can have headaches for 3 days at a time. I'm not anemaemic (sp) as I take a multi vit a day as well.

Does anyone else feel like this or is it just me?

Not just you. I'm quite similar especially the headaches. Make sure you are drinking lots of water/squash etc. I find that de-hydration really brings on the headaches.

ConnorTraceptive · 25/09/2007 15:02

I've always been very similar to this too. I think I don't drink nearly enough though so could be dehydration.

I never wake up feeling refeshed and god I would love to go to bed now!

sweetkitty · 25/09/2007 15:33

I'm glad it's not just me I feel awful right now and DD2 is just about to get up, I feel so groggy you now that almost sick with tiredness.

I usually only have one cup of tea in the mornings so can't really cut down on the caffeine, don't drink fizzy drinks either. Will try the water and banana thing for a few days and report back.

A dietician I once went to called it the sugar slump. Your blood sugar levels drop, eat a snack or drink some sweet tea.

LordVenger · 25/09/2007 15:39

I was continually shagged until I was sent to see a nutritionist for a newspaper feature, and she said "Quickest and easiest advice in the world: a GOOD (ie Solgar) zinc tablet in the morning, and one of magnesium in the evening." Apparently nearly all women, particularly mums, are very deficient in these two minerals. Within a week of starting it I was racing all over the place, begging hte kids to come ot the playground with me, etc. I'ts CHANGED my LIFE

oliveoil · 25/09/2007 15:42

oh really?

FLIER · 25/09/2007 15:46

so glad its not just me. will try the vitamins lordvenger suggested and I know i don't drink enough water

Cappuccino · 25/09/2007 15:48

"begging the kids to come to the playground with me"

god I won't be taking any of that then

oliveoil · 25/09/2007 15:48

lol

Surfermum · 25/09/2007 15:49

I used to feel like this. I'm sure it was because I'd eat too my biscuits and sugary things and didn't drink enough water during the day.

I started a Slimming World and started to eat loads of fruit and drink lots of water, and I no longer get it. I can still tell the difference on the days when I either don't drink enough, so make sure you're having enough to drink.

NorthernRockCod · 25/09/2007 15:50
