Please can someone diagnose me

Before I go to a doctor and get turned away for wasting time please can someone have a look of me list of symptoms and tell me if I’m just fat and lazy or if there might be something wrong that can be fixed. I have been diagnosed with mild anemia and am on iron tablets but apart from feeling a little less tired nothing else has changed.

Tired all the time
Foggy head
Headaches
Temper swings
Lethargy
Aches and pains
Itchy skin on legs mainly at night
Get pins and needles in my hands several times a day
Anemia (currently on iron tablets)
Snoring
Wake up constantly at night
Never feel like I’ve slept
Panic attacks at night
Hair falls out constantly. I have loads and loads of hair (hairdressers always comment on how much I have) but when I shower I can pull out clumps like over a 100 strands.
Hands and feet are always freezing - I like to wear fluffy boot slippers even when everyone else is in shorts and T-shirt’s. Work bought me fingerless gloves! Also I have a little fan heater under my desk but I’m only warm when it is on, the minute I turn it off (because it’s burning my skin) I instantly am freezing again. It’s like I’m a lizard and can’t control my body temp. Alternatively the minute I do any exercise or sit in the sun I’m red and sweaty.
Skin on shins can get scaly and shiny if not constantly moisturised
Finger nails have vertical ridges on and are brittle and constantly breaking
I have a small lump on the left side of my neck. It’s quite deep so like it’s on the muscle rather than just under the skin and doesn’t move about. Been there for several years I guess.
Often constipated like rabbit poo or sometimes the complete opposite of too loose
I’m fat (size 16) and 5’4”. Plus am the hairiest hobbit you have ever seen.

How old are you?

Lightofthephoenix · 22/06/2020 11:52

Thyroid problem possibly

BoreOfWhabylon · 22/06/2020 11:58

Make an appointment with your GP. You most certainly would not be wasting their time. I imagine you would need to have your thyroid function, vitamin D levels and HbA1C (for diabetes) checked for starters.

jessycake · 22/06/2020 11:58

underactive thyroid possibly , but the dr will order blood tests . I left my thyroid for far too long because I thought the gp would say its all in my head and infact it was only accidently diagnosed because I went for something else . When you live with symptoms for too long you gorget what was ever normal

BrieAndChilli · 22/06/2020 11:59

@Lightofthephoenix I’m 39.

I too was thinking thyroid issue. have you been checked for PCOS and hormone levels? My hair started coming out a lot when I lost weight, but anaemia can do it too. Do your hands and or feet go purple or white, such as in reynauds disease? Could be several things, but you are doing the right thing and certainly wasting the Drs time!

Shatandfattered · 22/06/2020 12:02

Another vote for thyroid. I have most of these symptoms and just got a borderline result for my thyroid so I've to get a repeat test in four weeks

Apossibility84 · 22/06/2020 12:03

Bloody hell OP

You are a walking talking under active thyroid case

I’d put money on it

The meds are brilliant once sorted. You’ll be back to normal.

BrieAndChilli · 22/06/2020 12:15

@jessycake I think that’s the problem, all these symptoms have been going on for so long or can on slowly that I don’t really remember what normal feels like so that’s why I’m not sure if I’m over reacting.
If it is thyroid or something similar that can be fixed/controlled with medication that would be amazing! I really need to lose weight (which puts me off going to doctor as I feel they will just say I need to lose weight) but I can literally starve myself and not lose a pound. At work we’ve all down several diets and everyone else loses loads and I never do! Can’t get into exercise as the symptoms just mean i literally don’t have the energy. Then I think we’ll I’m just being lazy and that’s all there is to it.

You will not be turned away from a GP's for wasting time. If you are ill, or think you are ill, get yourself down there. My wife works at our local GP surgery and they would much prefer to send home ten healthy people with a reassurance than have one person become seriously ill because they 'didn't want to bother the doctor'.

olivesnutsandcheese · 22/06/2020 12:21

Sounds very like underactive thyroid.
Call your surgery to arrange a telephone consultation with your GP, describe your symptoms and say you think you need a blood test.

Treatment is replacing the thyroid hormone that you are lacking with a synthetic replacement. It takes time to get to a correct dose. Increases should be done every 5-6 weeks.

If your brain fog allows it would be a good idea to make a daily log of your symptoms and carry this on when you begin treatment.

RogueHumanoid · 22/06/2020 13:00

I have all those symptoms with my fibromyalgia

kohlkat · 22/06/2020 13:02

You might have sleep apnea too.

NavyBerry · 22/06/2020 14:53

I'd also check Vitamin D and B12 levels

Maverick66 · 22/06/2020 18:54

I am menopausal and have pernicious anaemia . I have every one of your symptoms.

MilkMouse · 11/11/2022 21:45

I really hope you're not suffering now! Did you get any resolution? I agree it sounds like sleep apnea and B12 deficiency/pernicious anemia or thryoid
