It is really hard to say how much pain you will be in, as I don't know what state the tooth is in, hope easy/hard the extraction will be etc. You won't be in pain when you come around as even with sedation, they will also be using a local anaesthetic so you will be numb for a couple of hours. Take painkillers straight away so that they will cover you for when the anaesthetic wears off.

Maiintain a high level of pain relief by alternating paracetamol (taken every 4 hours) and ibuprofen (taken every 4 hours) at 2 hour intervals.

Also start taking arnica tablets the night before and continue for 5-7 days. I know a lot of people don't belive they work but I've seen plenty of people take them and they do seem to help.

Keep the area as clean as possible. Starting the day after rinse 4 times a day with hot salt water rinses (teaspoon of salt in a cup of boiling water, don't scald yourself but have it fairly hot).

If you smoke try to avoid doing so for as long as you can because this will increase the chances of a dry socket.

It's pretty bad ComeOVeneer, and yes I am a smoker, hence the added trepidation but thanks for the advice.
