Dd (2 tomorrow) and ds have been playing upstairs, and I heard dd playing with something.

It was the paracetamol foils etc. Don't know how many was in there, or even where she found them (they are all locked away). I can see where she has tried to open one, and has teeth maks in it.

I asked her if she had any and she said no, but ds (3) said she has had two. TBH, I feel that shewouldn't beable to swollow them, as they are the capsules.

Any danger?

Potentially dangerous, paracetomal overdoses can happen at relatively low levels - I would take straight to the hospital if it were me tbh
sorry wish I could be more reassuring, it's just if you don't know hwo many she may have taken best to be on the safe side

A study (2) of six hospitals in the North East of England in 1994 stated that presentation to hospital with suspected paracetamol poisoning is common in children but it is unusual for children to ingest sufficient paracetamol to cause toxicity. This is supported by other studies both in the UK and the US. (3,4) The authors suggest that because of the rarity of serious paracetamol poisoning in the under fives it appears unnecessary to perform plasma paracetamol measurements unless it is known they have ingested large doses (i.e. more than 150mg/kg body weight). This advice is also given by the current guidelines set by the National Poisons Information Service.

A bit more reassuring
from here

It also says this, are they 500mg tabs? If so and you know how many kg she weighs you can work out if she is at risk of liver damage

Any patient should be considered at risk of severe liver damage if he/she has ingested more than 150mg paracetamol/kg body weight, or, in adults, more than 12g (24 standard tablets), whichever is the smaller

I'd take her to A&E to be on the safe side. The capsules woul.d be easier to swallow than the tablets as they have no horrible taste.

oh crikey, jo, hope all is well

ggglimpopo · 27/09/2007 17:33

Take her to a and e. They will do a blood test to see how many she has taken and may well make her sick/use charcoal to get rid if she has just taken them.

Go now.

Hiya,

Thanks Lulu for letting everyone know!

DD was fine, no paracetamol was taken in the end!! Had blood tests, I felt so stupid but as the doctor said, it's better to be safe.

Sorry for worrying you all, only got back online tonight!
